Hiya everyone
I am new to the forum, I have been in Canada for two weeks now!!! I have moved to the Okanagan Valley and really love it here. My only concerns are my career options and at the moment they don't appear to be looking that good. I know it could be due to all my mixed emotions etc.... however my current status is I have completed all the necessary documentation to the CRNBC and I am waiting to hear from them and I have my PR status, I contacted the external recruiter, whom gave me a contact, who is only offering casual work!!! although I know I should be grateful this is work, it also means no benefits and carries no status when applying for mortgages etc, as well as making childcare a nightmare, as most registered care want permanent hours, which I can not commit to. Has anyone else been in this situation??? I have spoke to a retired nurse in this area who has told me this is often the case, that they will only hire on a casual basis!!! so at the moment I am quite bewildered, I had a very good job in the UK with 10 years experience in the NHS, both in the hospital and Community settings. Need some good advice and would love to here from any nurses in the Okanagan area Thank you

I'm not a nurse yet, but I live in Kelowna and have for 7 years.
Have you looked on
www.roomtogrowbc.ca
or www.interiorhealth.ca
(both will take you to the same job postings, but I'm not sure which one is better to start)
I've looked under the nursing jobs quite often and I see tons of regular part-time and regular full time RN jobs there. Are you in Kelowna or a smaller community? I'm not sure about the status of jobs in the smaller communities, but I know KGH always seems to be hiring nurses at either regular full time or regular part time hours.
Hope this helps and I hope you love our beautiful area as much as I do!! PM or email me if you have any specific questions I might be able to answer!!
