I'm a student at CCRI in Rhode Island, I've finished all of my pre-req's.... and Micro... and everything else... and have been told I'm an "alternate for 2008." Just looking for anyone else that goes to CCRI or knows any more about the Merit Based Applications than I do!
Hey all-
I have to agree with cjcsoon2brn! I go to RIC also. I did take Anatomy, Dosage and Intro to Health at CCRI in '05 and then decided to get my butt out of there. A 3 year wait is ridiculous, then 2 years on top of that for an ADN??? BULL!
RIC requires many more courses, obviously because its a BSN program, but I think it is well worth it. The prerequisites are Developmental Psych, Anatomy, and then two Chem courses. I applied applied for the Spring 07 class but got deferred because the class was full, but was accepted for the fall (3.3 GPA). I'm thrilled.....and I really feel for you guys who put up with CCRI's crap.
If you can do it, come to RIC!! Good luck!
I would definitely look into applying at RIC. As I said before CCRI is a great school with some really great programs and I definitely don't regret my time there but I just think that CCRI needs to look at its admissions policy for the Nursing department. I think that if RIC is a school that you are interested in and it's within your means financially (with our without financial aid) then its something you should really look into. The campus is nice, great faculty and its a good program, not to say it isn't flawed but I think the admissions policy is more straight forward then CCRI. I would actually recommend that if your going to transfer to RIC I would not take any more Nursing related Science courses at CCRI until you transfer to RIC, this is because RIC prefers you do more of the science courses at RIC to see that your capable of handing the workload. I would say that because if your going to stay at CCRI long enough to get the 24 credits that's fine but make sure your Chemistry courses are done at RIC. If you want you can do the Writing class as well as your Psychology courses at CCRI and then transfer to RIC if you want. If you want to list what classes you have taken Tessa, I can post what I would recommend and I am guessing that Laura (GreenEyes) will be willing to take a look at it too.
Intro to healthDosage&med cal.

Intro Psych.
I really think with a 4.0 you wouldn't have a problem getting into RIC, regardless of the number of credits. You may just have to apply as a freshman, but that really doesn't matter. The tuition is dirt cheap for a 4 year college, and the education is good as well. I've been to a private University and 2 public colleges and honestly don't see much of a difference.
So, with the courses you've taken.... you would need to take Anatomy, Chem 105, Chem 106 and Human Development in order to turn in an application.
Obviously there is nothing wrong with staying @ CCRI....it's all a matter of what works best for you, how quickly you want to start working, and what you want for the future.

I agree with Lauren on this one. Your GPA is real good and you could transfer to RIC anytime you want. If you want to stay at CCRI until you get XYZ number of credits then thats fine but you could apply to RIC at any point and I think you would get in. I'm not sure but I think its a little late to apply for Fall of 2008 but the Spring of 2009 might be a good time to look into it. If that's the case and your looking for classes to take in the Fall at CCRI I would go for Anatomy and Human Development and if your transfer to RIC for the Spring of 2009 I would do Chem. 105 and Bio. 108. I mean that's not a perfect suggestion but its just an idea, just something to consider. Good luck!

I know how y'all feel. I graduated high school in 2005 and did the pre-reqs at CCRI and at the end of the Spring semester in 2007 I was told that I would be on the wait list for 3 more years (I had one C so I was automatically off the merit based program even though I had a good GPA.) I'm sorry but that is a load of bull, and when the councilor said I would have to wait 3 years just to get an Associates degree I told them they were crazy and I was transferring to RIC. I know the programs around the country are in need of more faculty and need more space for students but CCRI and their whole system is a little messed up. I like CCRI don't get me wrong, I just think they need to rethink the whole system a bit. And in case anyone wants to know I transfered to RIC for the Fall of 2007 and have been on the Dean's List for both semesters (only one B and the rest A's) and I am now accepted into the Fall 2008 program. I liked CCRI and all but I just couldn't wait that long for an Associates degree (I eventually want to get my Masters or Doctorate and become a NP and professor.) Not that it matters but I didn't like the Lincoln campus, I like the Warwick campus way better and Providence campus isn't too bad either.
