HFCC RN Classes

Hi all, question, could someone tell me how do they schedule the nursing classes 120 and 126. Do you take them together or do they break them up. Example 120 for the first 8 weeks or so and then 126, the second half? Also, if they are split, what else do you take with 120. Is there a lab requirement? Also, the same with 150 and 155. :wink2:

you take 120/126 at the same time for the whole semester. you also have a lab that is included in the 126 section. after that they are split up into 8 week sections.

Oh, ok, thanks. No wonder its a lot of work, lol. So basically you are in school 3 to 4 days a week and 150/155 are split. I was trying to figure out if I could work the first semester or not. Thanks for your response.

4 days a week you have clinicals also. if you work i wouldnt work to much.

And in the first part of the first semester, there is extra time required to prepare for checkoffs, online quizzes, etc, for the Practice Skills Lab. Those are done before you get to go to clinicals. I guess we do need to know something before we go in, not that I ever felt like I did! : )

When does clinicals start, 8 weeks or so?

Yeah, I think it's late October if I remember correctly. After your checkoffs for BP, assessment, bed baths, blah, blah, blah...

your calander is posted on the K drive. it has the whole semester mapped out for you.

Lecture for 126 meets twice weekly. Lecture for 120 meets once a week. 120 is all lecture, no lab work at all. 120 is a theory class about the origins of nursing, its major theorists, and nursing concepts such as caring, empathy, etc. Bring coffee. :anbd: Don't let the seemingly easy lectures and reading mislead you - 120 tests are difficult, and knock more people out of the nursing program than seems fair. Between studying for the two lecture classes, learning new skills, planning extra time in the nursing lab to practice the skills, and just getting used to the overall and pace of nursing school, try to cut your work hours as much as you can, if at all possible.

150 and 155 are taken the second semester, but are not taken concurrently as 120 and 126 are. You take one of them first, then the next one. Of course, clinicals are every week, but there is not a great deal of time in the nursing lab this semester as there was the first semester.

Work very hard the first year and get through it. Your second year will seem much easier because you will know how to "do" nursing school.

Good luck to everyone starting nursing school this fall, no matter where you attend. It's exciting and terrifying all at the same time.

Actually new rules not allowed to have anything but water in class. we were told to put pop/coffee away.

for 155/150 when do they usually post clinical assignments? do we find out before school starts or once it starts? just trying to get my ducks in a row with who's taking my kids and when. would be nice to have a biit of notice for work days also.

Yep, a bit of notice would be great, but it's something we don't get. You will usually find out right about the same time (maybe a week before) the class starts. I have the Tues/Wed all day-schedule, and there were people in my class who ended up w/clinicals on Thur/Fri, Sat/Sun clinicals. Very frustrating for them.

Clinical postings are very last minute. If the are posted before the class starts, it's only a day or two before; no long term heads up, unfortunately.

There's never been anything more than water allowed in the classrooms. Signs are posted in every classroom. Those rooms are really nice and they wish to keep it that way. However, you can dring coffee on the way in, or in the atrium. Either way, you'll need it to stay awake during 120.
