Hey me too!

I know this is going to sound weird and no one will probably post a comment but that's okay. I started the PCT program today and as the instructor was going over the "equipments" list I was almost certain that things she recommended we get I wasn't going to need until I actually start nursing school in a few years.

I need a steth, BP cuff, and those nursing scissor thingys, a pen light and kelly clamp. I read about people recommending getting a pen light for school but I have no idea why. I do suppose I will figure it out soon enough but this is all so exciting. There is also a girl in my class who kept talking about someone she knew with such and such disease or whatever. Keep in mind this is the first day and the prof was just throwing stuff out there. The prof said something about why a certain would occur. The girl told some random story about the issue and the prof said do you know why. Of course she didn't. She just shrugged her shoulders. Is it really going to be like this for the rest of the sememster.

I also realize that I am going to have the problem of being hungry and too scared to eat in class. The prof is one who says we can either take a break or continue and finish early (even though it's only 10 minutes early and that's with her skipping slides on the powerpoint). I like to sit in the front but I find eating in itself a distraction and knowing someone is watching me eating and the noise it may make. With close to an hour of a commute I don't know if I can wait til I get home. Idk. Guess I'll figure something out.

It's going to be so much reading and I have 2 other classes but it will be okay. It's going to be fun. :clown:

As a pct you will need a bp cuff and stethoscope to learn how to take vital signs. And the scissors will probably be of use at times as well.

The pen light is for checking pupil size, shape and accommodation.

Get over your issue with eating in class. Bring an apple, some baked chips, anything you can munch on with one hand.

OOOOhhhh. That's what that thing is called...a pen light! That makes sense now. Lol. Wow.

And suppose I will have to suck it up with the whole eating thing. :uhoh21:

If you are worried about noise, try something like a snack bag of fresh sliced peaches, raisins/dried fruit, or string cheese. Easy to eat, and quiet too!

:yeah:Don't worry about eating...... Everyone does it! Personally I don't care who is watching, if I am hungry I will stuff my face, LOL. Just joking but really you will have a lot more to worry about like grades and homework to worry about this for too long. Good luck!

Lol. Thanks for the great advice guys. Mmmm, love pears. I never thought about getting soft food like that. Now that I got the food part out of the way, i can focus on school work (which I find is a lot of reading).
