That thought ran through my head while we were tubing a resp failure and my colleague reeked of tobacco. Given the scientific data and even more importantly, what we see smoking does to people on a daily basis, why would a nurse continue to smoke?
Disclosure: I used to smoke and quit cold turkey a few decades ago.

I'm not putting anyone down for smoking - I did for 16-17 years a long time ago - and smoking wreaked havoc in my family. But this utterly blows my mind: the current smoking percentage in the US is something like 20%. I work at a nursing home/rehab place, and I don't know what the % of RNs/LPNs/MTs/CNAs who smoke who work there is, but it's insane. It's like they never 'got the memo', so to speak, about smoking. I could say much much more, but I just had to say that...
