HESI is Wrong ! Let's File Suit

Published

i go to school in montgomery co. texas and have done okay in the nursing program making mainly bs through out the course, but i am not good at taking nursing test. comming from a trade background i have found that when i look at the rationals to the questions i miss it is usually that i thought of things in a common sense way not a test way. that said i have suffered through and i am suppose to graduate in may and then comes hesi. i took the test monday, march 26 and missed passing by 53 points. i can take the test again on 4/27 but i don't like my chances any better at passing it then either, i just don't test well or i at least don't nursing test well. what gives collages the right to keep you from taking the boards if you have completed 2yrs of their bs? isn't the hesi about keeping the pass rate on the first try numbers up for the college? so they look good. i have decided even if i pass the hesi i am going to retain a lawyer and sue the college for it's practice and i think that if they are going to use hesi that they should just factor it into your grade and not ruin your life over one stinking test. i would like to hear some of your options on whether or not ya'll think we should bring a national class action lawsuit to stop this madness. some students in ca. sued and won the right to sit for the board even though they didn't pass hesi and i believe that we deserve that right too. Hello,

It is such a relief to see that others are in the same situation as myself. I have recently been through 2 years of a nursing program and passed all of the core curriculum. It came down to a Hesi and I made an 835 and the faculty wanted an 850. I have worked hard and sacrificed so much. My whole family has put things on hold to help me through this long journey and it has come down to a ridiculous controversial test. Myself and another peer are planning on taking legal action along with letters of appeal.

Not only have we come within inches of passinf the Hesi with their required score but they have bent the rules for other students on teahcer made cummulative finals. Two students were not going to pass the course and graduate if they didn't get two more points on their final, the teachers awarded them those points and they passed the HESI with that 850. How is it that they are more capable than me to take boards? The ehtical and logical reasoning behind all of this madness contradicts everything that we were taught in school.

I am going to fight for my rights and those of others. I will make this right and win!

If there is anyone out there that has any documentation or information that can help us in this case please let me know!

Thanks!

It seems that the only people who find the HESI controversial are those who fail.

Well actually cardiacrn2006,

There are several others of my class who have passed everything that have complete support and have actually been the ones driving me to fight this test and the schools decision! I want to fight not only for myself becasue it might be to late for me, but if I can make changes for future students it's worth it because no one deserves to have to go through what my family and I are going through.

I am assuming you passed, but I know you have to know how hard school is and the time and money it takes.

I know that if given the chance to take boards I would pass with flying colors and I already know I am a great clinical nurse and have passion for patients!

You might do good to think before speaking on something that you may not know a whole lot about~

Thanks

WOW,how on earth can you claim that you will pass NCLEX with flying colors if you didnt pass Hesi, even though I passed Hesi the first time I would never ever make such an assumption about NCLEX since the questions can be very tricky and cover a. broad subject!!!

The truth is that Hesi is not a test that requires genius brain and the people prefer to whine about it instead of studying harder

Please work on your weak areas instead of arguing...

Just curious did you ever get anything done about the HESI. I am going thru a similar situation and I would love to hear feedback.

It seems that the only people who find the HESI controversial are those who fail.

Thank you.

With that said yes some of the questions can be unfair and tricky but honestly if you studied in nursing schools you should be able to pass Hesi.

This message is for Nan 1985 I have alot of compassion for you. I know how hard you have worked to get where you are. Has anything happened about your hesi

I agree with the poster that said if you can't pass HESI how do you know you'd pass NCLEX with "flying colors"? Btw, I believe cardiacrn2006 probably indeed knows what she's talking about having passed HESI and NCLEX.

Seriously, if I were having trouble passing a test that my FUTURE depended on, I believe I'd spend my free time studying instead of posting about it online. Just a thought.

i feel your pain. i FINALLY passed HESI attempt 5 (our final one) this week. its a relief.

oh.. and cardiacRN and truern.. all but 4 of our students passed this time. and YES, we are STILL pursuing our grievance at our school. i remember someone asking would i make such a big deal of it since i passed... the answer is YES.

most schools that have the problems with the HESIs are the schools that need to have more instructor driven review and remediation for the HESI... not just have the HESI tossed to the students and hoped they pass it. our program was going to give us an F for EVERY nursing class we took if we failed the fifth hesi.... how is that right? i wouldn't have been able to apply anywhere else, and my grade would have been so low id have trouble applying to any college around me. is that right?

if you feel that instruction at your institution has been poor, and that the instructors haven't been giving you the proper INSTRUCTOR DRIVEN REVIEW that the evolve website instructors guide for the HESI administration TELLS the instructors to give the students, then contact student affairs at your school!

i GAURANTEE if you get a group of students (we got around 55 signatures), write a grievance out (stating the facts, leaving feelings out of it), and get a group of about 20 of you going to student affairs, i promise you'll get some sort of ball rolling.

for all of those posters saying "dont bother fighting the system, it wont work"... well, i guess minorities and women shouldn't have fought to get the right to vote. i guess rosa parks should have gotten up for that nice white gentleman and sat her ass down in the back of the bus.

I hate that so many of you have to go through this. We take a test at the end of our Senior year, but it doesn't matter if we pass it. It is just to give us an idea of how we might do on the NCLEX and give the teachers some data on how they might improve the curriculum...and that's all it should be for.

Are you seriously comparing challenging a schools HESI policy to the struggle for civil rights????:angryfire

Instead of trying to "fight the system" spend your time and effort studying so you can pass the test.

what do you think "fighting the system" is all about?

its about trying to get a change into something that people think is wrong.

its not about comparing it to civil rights, its about standing up for what YOU think is right. and obviously, there is a base for support for this issue.

and i DID pass the hesi this time. that doesn't mean im giving up on our fight at our school to change the system. if everyone just layed down bcause they thought "its not worth it it wont help" then there would never be change and stuff like the 19th amendment would have never happened. so yes, it IS like fighting for civil rights.

heres a  right back at ya.
