  1. Honestly, Run, do not walk away from the ideal of being a nurse. [evil]Nursing School BITES [/evil]and if you are having that many problems with pre nursing classes you will never make it in nursing school where there is 0 extra credit and 0 help from fellow students and faculty. Save the money and move on to something else. Sorry to be so honest with you but it is the TRUTH
  2. i feel that nursing school s---ks, i have hated it from the day i stepped into the room, and the only thing better than seeing it in my rear view mirror this may, would be the unmistakable mushroom cloud of a atomic bomb landing on the school in my rear view mirror thereby preventing some other unsuspecting sap from enduring the torture they call "a good education".
  3. cardiacrn2006 did you take hesi? what kind of rock do you think that i crawl from under every day? of course i know that this one stinking test has the balance of my career in it. that's the problem and not just with me but a lot of really good students that maybe just don't test as well as some people, probably like you. i will pass hesi, but i will still push for change for i am determined to do something for the good of nursing and not be the nurse that wants to eat their young!
  4. thanks for the reply mstigerlily. we never new any thing about hesi until about the last week of the first year when we took a bench mark hesi that didn't count but where told then about this one in second year. i am glad that you did so well on your test and just fyi i probably own every nclex study guide known to man and nothing snuck up on me. my point is that this test is being used in the wrong way. it should be used to uncover your weakness or the faculty's weakness as you progress and help you, what it is doing is masking the failure of the institutions to do their job.
  5. thanks for your comment rn2b86. a teacher told me once when i voiced my opinion that if i didn't like the way nursing school was run " then change it" and i swear pass or fail it will be my life's mission to change at least this aspect of nursing for the good of all to come. would you be willing to sign a petition?
  6. Thanks for your comment navynurse06. Fact is I have maintained a B avg. in this arm pit of a program so I have done okay. My wife has been a nurse for 20 yrs and they never had to take HESI at all and she barely passed the boards on the first try. Also she will tell you that no employer has ever ask her what she made on the boards or what her GPA was, only if she had a license or not. I agree with you HESI and test like it should be a training aid and not a termination tool. (
  7. you are exactly right hesi is hiding the instructors inability to teach and on that note i think that nursing school spends way to much time on stupid waste of time busy work and to little time on teaching you what you need to know to be a good nurse. the hospitals here in texas are beginning to suggest that they want to take the responsibility of training nurses away from the colleges and go back to a diploma program because they have to train the gns anyway "even the ones that did good on the hesi". i personally coming from a trade world think that nursing, as a whole should be unionized and nurse training should mirror that of say an electrical apprentice. in that program you work with a journeyman and learn on the job and attend school working your way up the ladder. also if nurses were in a union they might be able to have lunches and breaks or maybe even a bathroom relief session without feeling guilty or having to work while doing it, i.e. charting while you eat. also a union would force the hospitals to stop under staffing the units and curtail the abuse that nurse's face from the doctors. of course there are bad sides to having a union too but i believe that the good would out way the bad and with nurse burn out rates in the neighborhood of from gn to burn out in 18 months someone better wake up and smell the coffee.
  8. i go to school in montgomery co. texas and have done okay in the nursing program making mainly bs through out the course, but i am not good at taking nursing test. comming from a trade background i have found that when i look at the rationals to the questions i miss it is usually that i thought of things in a common sense way not a test way. that said i have suffered through and i am suppose to graduate in may and then comes hesi. i took the test monday, march 26 and missed passing by 53 points. i can take the test again on 4/27 but i don't like my chances any better at passing it then either, i just don't test well or i at least don't nursing test well. what gives collages the right to keep you from taking the boards if you have completed 2yrs of their bs? isn't the hesi about keeping the pass rate on the first try numbers up for the college? so they look good. i have decided even if i pass the hesi i am going to retain a lawyer and sue the college for it's practice and i think that if they are going to use hesi that they should just factor it into your grade and not ruin your life over one stinking test. i would like to hear some of your options on whether or not ya'll think we should bring a national class action lawsuit to stop this madness. some students in ca. sued and won the right to sit for the board even though they didn't pass hesi and i believe that we deserve that right too. (
  9. Nothing is ever as good as it seems or as bad as it seems, it is only thinking that makes it so! God gave you the ability to be someone that not many people can be, a nurse. Lead by example, dust yourself off, keep your head high and go on.
  10. Ok, but how about the same for the doctors?
  11. I can relate to the A&P problems my friend. I took A&P 1 and Micro together with two other classes at the age of 45. A couple of words of advise: Be selective of your teachers, ask upper classmen for advise and visit and consider joining these web sites. http://ratemyprofessor.com and http://flashcardexchange.com . The first one will give you the ability to see what other students have said about their experience with the teachers at your school and the second is a great resource for flashcards that all already made for any subject that you can think of and you can make your own as well. Hope this helps, don't give up, just getrrrdone !:pumpiron:
