Hi everybody! I have steadily been creeping this forum for months now and finally joined now that I'm in my science pre reqs classes and slowly but surely getting closer to applying for the TCC program. I'm hoping to get everything together so I can submit my application in Spring '21 to get into the Fall '21 program!
I finished my english, stats, both psychs, and my fine arts and I'm currently taking AP1 right now and taking Micro and AP2 in the fall (I know I'm crazy for taking both at the same time...) But I just found out that TCC only selects students solely on their HESI score now and the grades you make in your science courses and your GPA do not effect being selected at all?! But I was curious if anyone knew how the HESI score is totaled, do they look at your grade in each category in the exam or are all the grades totaled together and that's the score you make on the HESI?

Depends on the program. Some schools will go for the total score which averages what you got in each category, while others look at specific category.
You can try to look at the program's website or call up the office and see if they will tell you.

I also took AP2 & micro together. It's tough but you can do it!
The HESI test is split up into 8 sections. There are individual categories that the school can look at. The science and math sections include: anatomy and physiology, biology, Chemistry, physics, and math. More info here: https://how2becomeanurse.com/free-guide/#exam
I wouldn't worry too much about how they grade it but on getting a good score. TCC seems odd that they don't weight the GPA at all. Many schools seem to weight the TEAS or HESI science sections. It's up to the school so I would recommend reaching out to them if you're very interested.
Also I would suggest taking the test after you finish AP2 and micro. The maker of HESI has a practice book and online practice exams: https://evolve.elsevier.com/cs/product/9780323582261?role=student
Suggested practice routine: Take online exam 1, find weak spots. Study and improve weak points. A few weeks before the test take online exam 2. Study and finalize refining weaknesses.
Good luck!

They rate you by the overall score of all 5 topics. I have also been told that if 2 people are tied for the last spots, they will look at the AP and Math score as a tie breaker. You will want at least a 90 overall to be competitive. Good luck.
