HESI A2 Review

Nursing Students HESI

Published

So, I have read a lot of posts about the HESI A2 that were posted a while back. I just took mine today, so thought I would give my experience. I applied for the LPN program in TN, and they take the math, reading, and critical thinking. The scores I needed were 70% for reading comprehension and an over all score of 70%. The reading consisted of 55 questions, and was pretty basic. Read a short story (they were pretty interesting) and answer about 6 questions regarding the information. So, a question might ask what the author was meaning when writing this story, or what does this particular word mean in this sentence. Really easy, but the comprehension questions can be tricky. On to the math, it also has 55 questions and was comprised of fractions, ratios, word problems, and I had one military time question. It took me the longest because math is not my strongest at all, and I scored a 74%. Really know your ratios and fractions, that was most of what I had. You do get a calculator (very basic) pencils and scratch paper. Then the final portion was the critical thinking, it consisted of 30 questions. The questions were like, what would you do in this situation as a nurse. Out of 4 patients (you are given their diagnoses) who would you see first. It's multiple choice, and the scoring is 0-1000. I scored an 820 on this portion. How I studied..... I used the Hesi A2 phone app, it really helps! I watched a lot of youtube videos and went online and just did all the practice tests I could. I only had a week to prepare so was not able to order the book (a lot of people like that)! Well, that's about it! Good luck, and take your time! I am now an official LPN student!

Congratulations!
