This is a bit of a repost, but I felt this section is a better place for my question. Does the HESI's biology section also cover microbiology or is that a different test area? I am applying to an ADN school and am required to take (in sciences) A&P, Biology, and Chemistry. In all my prepping for this test I am feeling comfortable with all sections except the micro questions that I'm seeing on http://www.hesiprep.com.
I needed to brush up on my math skills and certainly needed to review some chem and biology, but without having ever taken a microbiology class, this could make or break me!
Are there really questions such as:
Which of the following is NOT a characteristic of the Serratia genus of enterobacteriaceae
I'm also seeing lots of lab related questions (ie The correct reference range for bilirubin in infants is which of the following). I'm not sure how recent HS grads or non medical people could possibly know these questions. This isn't really A&P or Bio right?

Hi
I recently took the HESI A2 (the entrance test for an ADN school). There are no questions related to micro biology in the biology section.
It is real basic questions. Pretty much I got asked about organelles and what are their functions. A little bit about cellular respiration, really basic stuff.
I never had Biology in college, but I did finish up A&P I right before my test. The beginning 3 or so chapters in an A&P book will cover what you need for the biology and the chemistry sections.
You need to make sure your studying for the HESI A2, that weird nursing question you asked must be from some sort of NCLEX test. I know there is also a HESI test some schools give AFTER nursing school. Thats probably where that crazy question came from. All in all the HESI a2 is pretty easy. Good luck!
First of all, are we both Inman's?? Thanks for the reply. After all that worry I just found out that I'm not required to take the biology portion!!!
Next question though, I'm now focusing on the chemistry portion. Some of the study guides have questions like What is the mass (in grams) of 7.35 mol water? I'm hoping that a) the actual test is not quite that hard and that b) they provide a periodic table??
The chem section was really easy. No questions like that. And they do not give you a periodic table..but they dont ask you anything you would have to look up anyways.
Some questions were,
Whats a covalent bond?
Whats an ionic bond?
What is an electron's charge?
pretty straight forward stuff...
I never took Chem in college and I got a 92 percent on that section. You'll be fine!
And im not a Inman...Im a Tinman....thats just my nickname ha
Thanks Tinman, thats exactly what I needed to hear!
Anytime, good luck to you!
