Really? I'm a henry ford employee and didn't hear about this. That sucks and yes blame the economy for that.

How do you know this is economy related?

I'm assuming it is because since the economy has gone to hell in a hand basket, cuts have to be made somewhere.

I'm sorry u guys. You know I got alot of wind that HFHS would not continue the program for 09 so this is not news to me. Please believe that those of us who are in it now are eternally grateful and are wiping our foreheads like whew! This is the first year that HFHS paid out of pocket (no state grants) for this accelerated program and unfortunately they have had to make plenty of budget cuts... it's unfortunate that good programs like this one had to take a hit.

Updates... found out that the cancellation of the HFHS accelerated program was not only attributed to budget cuts... they would've held onto the program if it were not for the unusually high failure rate for this particular program sooo... just wanted to add.

Really? It had a high failure rate? That's kind of odd.

Yes, they're looking into reasons why... because they would obviously like to resurrect it in the future with the kinks worked out. I'm not sure if it had to do with the fact that it's a faster pace and people are still having to maintain a set number of hours at work or whether the employees are not taking it as seriously as they would've expected... I really don't know I'm going off of some of the complaints of a few fallen soldiers from our cohort.

I personally think if they made it more competitive raised the GPA requirements it could help. Alot of my fellow classmates were barely at the minimum requirement when they entered the program which I believe is setting them up for automatic failure. Those students (most of them) are gone. The ones still holding strong came into the program with 3.5 and above GPA's not saying we didn't lose a few of those either.

Your typical A students may become B students in the nursing program and so on and so forth (not saying this is the case for all but most) until they develop a system which helps them to better succeed. Using myself as an example I was an A student Hands down prior to the Nsg Pgm but when I got in my first 2-3 classes may have been consistent with my GPA but in the latter classes I've fallen to a Mid-High B avg.

Bottom line the typical attrition rate for nursing school overall at HFCC is about 30% but in our program with NSG 222, 250, 251 left to complete we are at nearly 50% failure rate already. Alot of money for HFHS to kick out, not to see a return on that investment. :twocents:
