How much math do you need. What are some of the prereqs.

For more info. go to the www.hfcc.edu and look at the nursing program reqts. Yes, there is typically a 1-1.5 yr. wait. To get on the waiting list u need to apply to HFCC and then apply to the nursing program and then take the NET. Passing the NET gets u on the list. There are 7-8 pre-req's u need to pass before admission. Take the classes while awaiting entry. See a counselor M-F 9-3 to go over everything. Hope this helps.

Has HFCC eliminated or revised the outrageous "critical thinking" test which caused large numbers of the class which started in 06 to be terminated or transfer to other schools, many in Ohio?

you have to have the pre-reqs out of your way before you can on the wait list.

you do not need to have a & p (both courses) out of your way before you apply to the wait list, so those would be ideal to take while you're waiting. they are required for the program, but you'd be this side of insane to take while taking any of the time-intensive nursing courses. that's why the wait period is a great time to take them. curiously, patho is not required for this program, but it is the course of choice assigned by the dean of nursing to take when you flunk a nursing class. (you want to get back into the nursing program? take this little patho class, and we'll see you when it's over.)

henry ford cc is accepting more nursing students than ever before, so don't let the wait schedule scare you away from considering this college. some people only wait for a year. that's not bad. who knows? you may be called sooner.

as for the ct classes.....are you talking about the eri tests? i didn't think those counted against you. the math and pharmacology portions in the modules ko'd many people in the fall 2006 class.....what test exactly are you talking about? and is the school in question that lpn school in ohio?

I don't know the official name for the test that caused so much trouble and grief last year but can find out. Just curious anyway. Will start school in Ann Arbor in Sept. A friend I work with has a daughter and MANY or her friends who were either eliminated from the program at HFCC last year or quit and went elsewhere because of this exam which was said to have to do with critical thinking skills but very difficult and illogical for many A students. I'm told parents of some of these students challenged the management of the school to require the faculty to pass the test but it fell on deaf ears. Many of the affected students went to an RN program in Toledo somewhere and were heartily welcomed, or so I'm told. Others dropped nursing entirely - I'm told many were A students but that this exam was an unexpected surprise. I know many schools are now utilizing third party exams which closely approximate NCLEX in order to help ensure success but it didn't sound like the exam described to me was related to any specific course in the HFCC curriculum; perhaps just a theoretical attempt to evaluate critical thinking skills independently of nursing subjects. Hopefully they've devised some way to prepare students better for this exam. Although I don't aspire to attend school at HFCC the incident has been a matter of great curiosity. Also, I don't believe everything I hear but have had great confidence for many years in the folks from whom this information came.

I do not attend HFCC, but another CC that has a similar nursing program. I am not sure what test you are referring to? It could be the format in which the nursing test questions are written once in the program. Nursing is critical thinking and all of our exams and quizzes are written in that format. I do have one teacher at my college who is a nursing Instructor at HFCC full time, she is awesome and I have learned a lot from her. Nursing school is tough, at any school you get in to. There are no more all "A" students in our class, they were before going in to nursing school, but once in the program, you are happy to get a B or a C on your tests. Our state boards are going to be tough, this is the way the Nursing program prepares you for that in just two short years. The nursing schools in Toledo that some go to are the LPN schools. Those schools are easy to get in to, however, it is only a year program and it is not a Registered Nurse program. There is a difference by responsibilities and opportunities in the work force. I certainly do not have all of the answers to things in life, but I can testify that being a Nursing Student is tough business and you have to put forth 100 percent in to it to survive. I am an older student with two kids and a husband, so it can be done. I wish everyone success.

Again, could it be the ERI testing? We were just assigned an ERI test, and we discovered there was a ton of OB, peds and psych on it....three courses we haven't even taken yet!! How can they test us on that? And fail us? No one has said ANYTHING to us about these tests and their importance.

I've not heard of the furor over the testing in 2006, but that's HFCC.....they don't like for bad news to spread on any level.
