HELP! What class should I take while I wait?

Published

Hi everyone,

I am currently on the waitlist at HFCC for the nursing program and it's not looking like I'm gonna get in for fall:( I have taken all my pre reqs and co reqs and in order to keep my financial aid I need to take at least 6 credit hours. I figured I would take a class towards my bachelors which is 5 credits and there a few others that seem like they would benefit me but are not required. I thought maybe one of you who have already begun the program or even finished it might have some insight for me. I can take introduction to phlebotomy, computers in health care or basic health assessment for 1 credit each.

I would love to hear any advice you have to offer:)

Oh that sucks, did you call just to find out where you are on the list? I've read a couple of the people who got on in December received their letter to start this fall.

Did you get on late December or Mid?

I went on mid Dec.!

I went to OCC and took pharmacology a semester before the nursing program began. I don't know if this is possible, but if you can, I suggest you do. This class is alot of memorizing and flash cards! A lot of people took it before, but those who didn't and waited until the nursing program began had to take it with another nursing class and either failed that class or had a very hard time passing it.

Or, taking classes towards your bachelor's is a really good idea too. I wish I had did this. I am starting at UofD in Jan. and I have to take speech, statistics, chemistry, art or drama course, and intermediate algebra, uugh! However some of these classes I can test out of, so before you decide to do this find out which clases you can test out of so you won't waste so much time and money. Good Luck :nurse:

Already took pharm, as another poster stated it's a requirement at HFCC:wink2:.

Depending upon what your career goals are this should aid you in determining which classes will be most valuable and important to take.

If your looking to go on for your bachelor's or higher, I would first contact the school your interested in attending and set up a meeting to find out what you need. Most schools also have a transfer of credits list available online which shows you what will transfer. If a B.A. or M.S.N. is your goal then you may not want to waste your time taking classes that won't help you get to where you wanna go.

You may want to consider these classes for transferring as well as the fact these classes are good references/skills to have:

chemistry, medical terminology, phlebotomy, second language (eg. spanish, etc.), statistics (this is a big one!), an additional first aid course, medical code & ethics, medical computers, etc.

Best wishes! ;)
