Help from those who went to school in PA!!! PLEASE :)

Published

I currently live in California and have been thinking about leaving the state to go to school elsewhere. For one I'm just sick of California ugh! But anyways...I've been looking around at schools in PA but there's just SO MANY. I want to just be simple and go to a community college first to get my ASN but I'd like it to be near a larger city/area so I'm not new and in the middle of no where. Plus if I decide to then get my BSN or more I won't have to move hours to go to a larger State school or Univ. If you know of any community colleges near larger areas whose websites actually give info as to when applications are due (I've looked at quite a few in general and they don't tell you much) I'd appreciate it if you could respond. Thanks!

Try Community College of Philadelphia, I think their due date is Jan 15th...someone correct me if I'm wrong. Here's the website. http://www.ccp.edu/site/academic/degrees/nursing.php

It's in center city Philadelphia.

I'm not sure exactly when the due date is, but the website does not have a lot of info. You're going to want to call or email them since you are out of state and won't be able to attend the on campus application orientation where they go over what you need to apply.

You also might want to consider Northeastern Hospital School of Nursing and Abington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. I think they are both diploma (but I am pretty sure NE has an ASN completion option?) programs.

Abington also has a ASN completion program with Manor Junior College. Both Montgomery County and Bucks County community colleges also offer nursing programs. With Montgomery County, you apply to the Nursing program and are accepted into General Studies until you finish enough pre-reqs to be accepted into the Nursing program. Here are some websites to check out.

These programs are all in the Philadelphia metro area. I have heard that Harrisburg and Pittsburg also have excellant ASN programs, you may want to look into those areas as well.

Good luck!

In and around the Pittsburgh area there are several nursing schools. UPMC has 3 different diploma programs in different hospitals (St. Margaret, Mercy, and Shadyside), as does West Penn. CCAC (Community College of County) has a ASN program and so does La Roche College. Most of them have their dates on their websites and you can find them by a simple Google Search. A little further North of the city there is BC3 (Butler County Community College), they also have an ASN program.

There really are several programs in and around the city. I am pretty sure there are more than I listed and I know several of the colleges in the area have RN-BSN programs including La Roche, Slippery Rock, and Pitt. Hope you find a good fit here in PA.
