I am currently a high school senior, I want to become a Registered Nurse but doesnt know which school to go to ? Is there anybody that knows something about Henry Ford Community College Or Wayne County Community College?? Which School Is The Best? How Long Is The Waiting List? Which Classes Should I Take For My Pre-Req's? And Any Other Info That Can Help Me Out Thanks !!!! :):):):)

Specializes in CICU.

Chris - I would recommend contacting each school directly and asking for this information. WCCCD holds informational meetings regularly, and I think HFCC does as well. You could also arrange to meet with an advisor or counselor.

Good Luck!

I would say neither and suggest a four year college. With all of the pre-requisites,co-requisites and the actual programs (which are both two years) you will put in enough time, hard work and credit hours to have a bachelors, but all you will obtain is an associates degree when you are finished,at either school. Also if you want to be a floor nurse and work in a hospital your entire nursing career then an associates is all you need but if you are looking into other jobs with a higher pay and more autonomy, then you must have at least a bachelors degree.

Hello Chris I agree with wouldntyouliketoknow....try and go to an University and obtain a BA instead. Congress is trying to wean out ASN in the future, Schoolcraft College (the first community college to reach this goal) has done it and Davenport has also. A lot of University will not even except ASN to BSN anymore. But I strongly encourage you to DO YOUR OWN research from realiable and credible sources...Speaking from expereince. GOOD LUCK to you!

I agree w/getting your BSN!! It took me 2 years of pre-reqs, and now I'm in a two year program. When I'm done, I will have an ASN, in the same amt of time I could have had a BSN! If you can afford it -- go for your BSN!!!

I suggest that you take your prerequisite courses at the community college that is closest to your home. Then when the time comes, apply to all of the programs within your area and attend the one that accepts you. If more than one program accepts you, then you can make that choice. Good luck with your studies.

I agree with everyone - BSN would be the way to go. It took me 2 years to do all the pre-reqs for Macomb CC and Baker (went to both to keep my options open) and I finally just got accepted to Macomb (after being denied once) - by the time that all is said and done, it will have taken me close to 4 1/2 - 5 years to complete my ADN! I don't think people realize that it isn't JUST a 2 year program. There's a lot that comes before that, and then there is the possible chance that you don't get accepted the first time around (it's become INCREDIBLY competitive).

If you can afford to do so, don't mess around and just go straight for your BSN. To keep costs down, you can pick whichever University you want to attend, see which pre-req's they require, and then take those at a community college. It's usually a fraction of the price, they transfer (but double check with the University first), and then you're able to apply when you're ready. Best of luck to you!!
