Hi All:

I have got few question about getting into a RN in canadian colleges and was wondering if someone could help me to get answers to these questions.

1. How can I get into a RN program in canada ? Can you give few colleges

near Windsor, ON in canada ?

2. Will they accept my pre-requisites that I had completed in USA ?

3. How is the situation about the admission process in Canadian colleges

as far as the waiting list is concerned ? Can I jump start my Nusring

program or will have to go through a painful waiting period ?

4. If I pass the RN program in canada, can I practice in USA or vise-versa?

Thansk a lot for your kind help.

Usha

I so agree with your last sentence. Even for LPNs wanting to do the bridge in Alberta, they are looking at a lot of work. One year pre-reqs., 8 mo bridge course, then admitted into year two of GMCC's diploma..... Really makes the older LPNs want to do it, NOT....

Hi Usha,

I am also a landed immigrant in Windosr, ON. When I went to nursing school (about ten years ago), I decided to go to Wayne State University in Detroit for a number of reasons. University of Windsor, would not accept any of my pre-reqs from a previous degree at Wayne State (in my opinion it is a money grab because WSU and U-W have reciprocal agreements regarding undergrad tuition. You can get in-stste tuition rates at WSU if you live in Windsor and vice versa). Also, because I have a previous bachelors and WSU has a CD2 program which saved me more time. YOu then have to work for approx. 6 mos. before you can write your Canadian Registered Nurse Exam, but you can write the NCLEX in Michigan right away.

There is also a college program at St. Clair College in Windosr, but now that a BSN is required, I believe they only have RPN programs now. There are many nursing programs besides WSU across the river in Detroit (Univ. of Detroit-Mercy, Oakland University, University of Michigan, Wayne County Community College, Marygrave, etc.).

I would be happy to answer any other questions you may have if I can. Good luck!
