i am a recent LPN graduate (finished in october) and still havent found a job yet! ive been looking everywhere, but i think a combination of the bad economy, a new grad with no expierience, and a new year have been against me.
ANYWAY..
for the time being, i am working 2 days a week at a restauraunt, and havent had much nursing in my life! is there anything anyone reccomends to keep my mind fresh? books? anything?
i just want to be on top of things when i finally find a job.
thanks! :)

Joking here... working in a restaurant is very much akin to providing "5 star" service in a hospital... "Is there anything else you need?? I have the time..." LOL LOL LOL

I think that when you complete any area in your nursing education you feel you will never retain the info given to you. I can think of a few things that will help. 1. keep up to date on the information out there. So many web sites you can use as a resource to help keep you connected. 2. Can you continue on your nursing education and get your RN? 3. When you graduate from nursing school, you are ready to learn to be a nurse. It takes about 5 years for you to become comfortable with the normal regular tools you need for being a good nurse. Nursing is and will always be an ongoing concurrent learning process. I am a clinical nursing instructor and I work full time as an ICU nurse. I am always going to classes myself. I stay current in my area of expertise. Only 24 years and I'm still learning. Please don't give up. 4. Do some research in your area of nursing jobs. Look for employers that are willing to hire new grads. You may find they will help you get your RN if you work at that hospital for 1 or 2 years after you graduate. They also make sure you have a job. This could be the modivation you need to complete you education. Sounds like your a smart cookie and not willing to settle. Good luck!
