Hi, guys and gals! I'm hoping to find some help. This is my first time writing on here as, I have been lurking admittedly since I decided that I'm definitely going to nursing school! I'm taking pre-reqs now and I have tons of questions and I'm wondering if you all can help. First question:
I have 4 kids. All under 6 and I'm wondering how you guys that also have young ones handle the child care when they get sick and can't do childcare/school? My husband works full time and does get vacation time, but has to know ahead of time that he's taking it.
Question 2:
What should I expect out of ADN school after I get done with my pre reqs?
Question 3: How long before the application deadline should I take the TEAS?
Question 4: Did you take any pre reqs while in your nursing program?
sorry I know this a lot of questions, but I'm just so excited to finally be following MY dream as I've spent the last 4 years as a stay at home mom. If anyone would like to add any extra advice it would be GREATLY appreciated! TIA!!

Hello!
I can't answer your first question because I don't have any children. Nursing is a full time job, and the students in my class that have children do struggle a little bit more than the students who don't. It's not impossible to be a full time mom and do well in nursing school, but you need to know how to manage your time.
All nursing schools are a little different. I'm in an ADN program now, and after I finished all of my prereqs, I applied and waited to get accepted. My school didn't require an interview or any volunteer time. But, we did have to take the HESI, not TEAS. There was also an orientation that explained the program, clinicals, what days we go to class or lab, and the supplies we have to buy.
For you third question, this is something you should ask your school. My schools cut off for the HESI exam was one day before you had to turn in your nursing application for the program.
Lastly, I finished all of my prereqs for the ADN program and my future BSN program before I started my nursing program.
Talking to a counselor at your school would be very helpful to know exactly what you're getting yourself into. Best of luck:)
Thank you! I know a lot of my questions seem like questions I should ask the school I'm planning to attend. I did speak to the chair of the nursing program, but when she asked how many children I had and I answered her, her whole demeanor changed. I do know that it will be difficult, but this is what's best for me and my family! I need to change the course of our future and this is the best way I know how. Not to mention this is something I have always wanted. Especially since my second baby, first daughter, was born with a congenital heart defect. Just changed my whole perspective on nurses. :)
