I have not ever heard of anything like that, most travel companies require you to have experience, at least a year and many want more. Good luck.

This is put on by the US Government under the loan forgiveness program. You will be sent to an area that the government feels the need for. Ive heard of new nurses being put in horrid conditions. Indian reservations, crime-ridden urban areas where you wouldnt feel safe to even walk to your car, etc... I wouldnt get hooked by the government for these type of jobs. You'd be better off working where YOU choose and perhaps pick up a few OT hours and pay off loan on your own. It isn't like your paying a high interest rate!

Skybirdrising - the IHS (Indian reservation) is not necessarily a bad experience. I originally took a job with them to get a chance to be trained in OB (difficult to break into back then) with an obligation to stay a year. I ended up staying 9 years! With an open mind and a taste for adventure it can be an incredibly good experience although very different than most of us urban/suburban types are used to. It can also provide experience in things you seldom or never see in less remote areas.

I enjoyed it enough, and made enough friends there that as a traveler I now take an occasional contract back on the res. just to catch up with people and enjoy the desert country!
