I am in a bit of a tizzy here. My statistics class starts in about a week and I am without a TI-83 or TI-84 calculator. I've asked everyone I know if they had one to borrow and half the people didn't even know what that was. LOL Is there anyone here that is willing to let me borrow this calculator for this semester? My financial aid was used on my books and unfortunately there's not enough left for a $100 calculator. And yes I've looked on ebay and every other website. I'm not able to afford it at this point. And no I'm not able to borrow money. I really don't have anyone to borrow from or believe me I would have.
If anyone is kind enough just send me a message. Or if you have any other thoughts on this let me know. I appreciate it. Thanks

A regular calculator is all you need for stats. I never used a TI83 in mine and got an A.

Have you tried your local "freecycle" site? I use two in my area. I post when I'm looking for stuff of if I have stuff to offer. No selling, just recycling for free. Good luck.
Try this link to find a group in your area.

Thanks I'm going to try both of those sites and see what happens. And has anyone else used a "regular" calculator for Stats??
Yes, I have, as I said. You'll be fine. Not much graphing in stats, hence why you don't need a TI83. A TI83 won't help you with normal distribution etc.

Agreed. You don't need an 83/84 for statistics. It can help a little but not much at all. I started with a TI-30, switched to a TI-83 for a short period because I thought it might help but then went back to my TI-30 because it did all I needed it to and it was faster and easier to use.
My observation was that the TI-83 was too much for a lot of people and that they would've been better off without them.
I got an A in statistics using my TI-30
Well now I've just spoken to a few students who took the class last semester. And they told me I DO need the TI-83 or 84 calculator. Has anyone ever rented a calculator from rentcalculators.com?
I would email the prof of the class to find out for sure. You never know, you may luck out.
I've emailed the professor and she also said yes I do need a TI-83 or 84 calculator.. I was hoping to get off easy.

Does your school have online community board you can post on? you could find someone who has one you could get for cheap??? Of ask around. thats if you really have to have one if you decide you can't do it with a regular calc. Freecycle is your best be also look on yahoo groups for local free groups and community groups. There are resources out there that will help you just have to do some digging. I have gotten so many things from freecycle to name a few: A 56" big screen, intex easy set pool, complete bedroom set, mt bike, book case and just recently a digital voice recorder for school.
My school does not have an online community board. I have looked on the freecycle site and have found nothing. I'm still looking. Class starts on Monday. If I can't afford one I may have to drop the class. I definitely don't want to fail. :)
