I'm in my 5th and final semester of Nursing program and classes are almost into the 4th week and we still hadn't received our internship schedule then we were told that we would be going to a nursing home for internship and it is completely unacceptable we've had 2 clinical rotations in two different nursing homes and our peds rotation was in a long-term care facility, a pediatric nursing home!
a nursing home was not an option on the list of choices nor was it ever mentioned or a thought to be an option!
So I was told if I wanted to attempt to find my own preceptor best of luck to me
but that is what I intend to do at least as hard as I can
if anyone has any suggestions please let me know

If you give the state where you live someone might have suggestions otherwise we are all shooting in the dark. :-)

Why is it "completely unacceptable" to rotate in an area where you may find yourself going to once you pass your boards?
The benefits of career mobility is one of the pluses in a nursing home; also, if you enter acute care, your time management will be a plus.
However, you WANT to find a preceptor, what is your area? have you contacted local areas of your interest and called and asked?
Maybe you are having a challenge because they are not accepting students from your school, at least on an individual basis and only use groups of students?
Give us more information so we can point you in the right direction. :)
