Here's a cool exercise that may get you unstuck.
Begin by finishing this sentence in as many ways at you can think of over a couple of days. "I believe ____________". ___ in a supreme being; _____ that every life has value; ___ that health care is a basic human right; ____ cats are better than dogs; Volkswagen is a shady company; technology adds a lot of value to my life; it's not good to be alone; . . . etc.
Then list things that make you sad: "the Holocaust; violence; feeling powerless; clubbing baby seals; homeless people . . . " and things that make you happy: "making someone feel better; chocolate cake; roller skating; having my accomplishments recognized; . . . "
Finally, try some endings to this one: "If I knew I could not fail, I would try _________"
Essentially, this is an exercise in Values Clarification. It helps you sort out what you really believe in and what you really want to accomplish. You should be able to come up with a personal statement based on that information. It needs to be written in first person ("I") with an active voice. It'll probably be brief - one page or less - and should provide insight about the real you.
