HI All, I'm a CNA, just started nursing school but I have a question concering me, please help.
I have vericose veins in my left leg (Calf) and the last few months have noticed this little bilghing out spot on my ankle (inside abut a half inch above the medial malleolus) anyways, it is this TINY bulging out portion, just probably slightly bigger than a pin (like a stick pin) today it itched so I scratched it as I was on the phone with someone and it started to bleed and then all of a sudden spurted way up high and I got blood all over the place. No pain or anything. I was slightly shocked and applied pressure for about 10 mins as I finished my conversation then called my 8 year old DD to come get me a napkin so I could stop the bleeding as this 10 minute long pressure did not work. I taped the papertowel to my leg and grabbed the first aid kit and then washed up. After that I took off the napkin and while it was still bleeding a tiny bit, i just applied a 2x2 piece of gauze to it after I cleaned it. It doesn't hurt but I am concerned with the fact that the blood spurted out so fast and high. It was definitely bright red blood. Should I call the Dr? Should I be on my feet for 12 hours the next 2 days ? (I am scheduled to work Friday and Saturday 12 hour shifts at my CNA job. I work on a very busy post op floor. Help, It's sort of embarassing I know, but I don't want to hurt myself further if I should rest it you know?
Thanks in advance,
Shannon

You need to contact your healthcare provider.
Allnurses.com is not a medical advice forum.
We hope you see/call your physician. Good luck.

Well thank you, I had guessed that I needed to call my Dr, but I just didn't pop on here for medical advice, I post on the students forum. I don't have a regular Dr and I would feel silly going to the ER for this. Thanks though
