I was wondering, did or are you bringing a back pack to school? I was just wondering if thats a smart idea or not since Im not sure of the curriculum yet so im not sure if I actually need them all at once. My first day is on the 2nd(w/out books) but i wont be able to get it last minute money wise(i need to budget it all out) and also because of my hectic toddler schedule that i am on- and they probably will tell us on that day that we should have one for the 3rd-....also, i was wondering what other small things should i bring (notebooks, pens, band. scissors, steth, goggles I already have)....i havent been to school in a long time.. i dont want to feel like a dork!!!

Bring the exact same school supplies you'd bring to a typical high school or college class.
I wouldn't buy a stethoscope, scissors, goggles, or any medical supplies yet, because your school might supply them to the students. My program provided students with scissors, stethoscope, three uniforms, a penlight, and other assorted medical supplies, because these things were automatically rolled into the tuition cost.
And, yes, I brought a backpack to school. Imagine having to carry 5 or 6 extremely heavy nursing textbooks in your arms. I suggest obtaining the 'rolling' backpacks on wheels.

The rolling backpack is wonderful.
I purchased mine at Marshall's. It is a Jansport and it was under $30.

At my orientation the teachers suggested the rolling kind as well, although we didn't get our books she "held her hand up" about 2 feet high to indicate how high the stack of books would be. She did say that we wouldn't need all the books everyday, but suggested that if we want them all available that we would need something big and easy to handle.
Thanks.....a rolling one is a very good idea....glad I posted this question!!!
I had to buy all my uniforms, googles, scissors& stethoscope seperatly- although it had to be through a particlar uniform store that the school has contracts through. But they didnt mention a pen light so maybe i should go pick up one of those too! I know the clinicals have pressure cuffs that we can use so they said dont bother buying one....but all of the items i bought were recommended by the scrub store. I bought the shoes at an outlet store for 1/2 the price(dansko high arched shoes for $60!!!!) but because we will need certain quality steth when we decide what type of facility we will be working at, i bought a prestige medical clinical light series for $25.
Thanks so much every one this was very helpful!

ok. this is how it will be for you (sadly). you will have several books, pens, paper. portfolio's, highlighters, pencils, calculators, colored pencils to carry. now, if your purse is big enough more power to ya! i agree that a rolling backpack with an extending handle is the way to go. also, make sure it has straps to use as a regular backpacks for the days when a multiple floor college has a elevator malfunction and you have to carry that bag more than 3 flights! have fun school shopping! don't forget to get the binder you will need for almost every class to put all your work in! schedule yourself for "quiet time." best wishes. congratulations. you can do this. life will never be harder than was for you to learn to walk, talk, and cry. ~sunni.
