HELP! RT wanting to become RN

Published

Does anyone know what would be the best way of going from being a respiratory therapist to an RN? I would like to do this online, so are there any online schools that allow an RN degree for RT's? Also im hoping to get my BSN also, any more possible ways of going about that? Thanks for the help

Since you are already a RT, you are eligible for the Excelsior Program. You can find more information at http://www.excelsior.edu.

Good luck.

just a thought but...does anyone know of any CRNA schools that would take a BS in resp. care as the required bachelors degree? (ive heard of a few that will take a RN license with a bachelors in a science)

i am starting RT school next fall, and am planning to go PA after a few yrs, but should the OR and passing gas attract me more then i would definitely want to go CRNA, rather than AA. i guess i would do the excelsior program, but again would any CRNA schools accept my BS in resp care?

thanks

I don't know much about it but here is the univ. of Pittsburgh's requirement for that:http://www.pitt.edu/~nursing/anesthesia/admissions.html

I doubt that a CRNA program would take a BSRT because of the legality of giving all of the non inhalation meds. CRNA programs are very competative and require ICU experience. Believe me ICU is very different as a nurse. I am an RN/RRT.

I challenges getting some of my credits to tranfer when I decided to goto nursing school. I did a trditional BSN program because with the prerequisites it would have taken me three years even for an ADN program.

Good Luck, Sheila
