Help relocating to Dupont WA

Published

Happy New year to you all. I am in desperate need in getting an insight on the job market for an RN with 7years of experience. I will be moving to Dupont this summer due to my husband getting stationed there. How is the hourly pay around that area.

Also does anyone know how the job market looks for new Nurse Practitioners ? Hope to hear from someone and thanks for in advance

I'm still a student, so I'm unsure of pay or job availability in itself, but I'll share what I do know.

Dupont itself doesn't have anything much to offer nurses (only a few doctors offices). You'll need to look into Olympia, Tacoma, or work on base for more job opportunities in hospitals. Dupont is a great location since it's between Olympia & Tacoma, but traffic can get pretty crazy around that area of I-5 (especially heading towards Tacoma). It is also quite expensive to live in Dupont and there are several other smaller towns close to base that are much cheaper, but would limit your jobs. Good luck in relocating and an early welcome to the area! :)

You can find out about specific hourly rates through the union websites. Two big ones are WSNA and SEIC.

In this region, I don't think it's too hard to find a job. I am pretty much a new grad and found exactly what I wanted within a matter of weeks of applying. If you are looking more towards Seattle, things get a lot more competitive. I have even heard of new grads in Seattle starting in Tacoma because there are more opportunities there. At your level, I doubt it would be too hard.

The major hospitals to look at for job listings are St Pete's in Olympia (Providence), Multicare in Tacoma (several hospitals, including Tacoma General), and the Franciscan network (St Joe's in Tacoma, and I think St Clare's is the one in Lakewood). There's also Western State (psych hospital) in Lakewood, if you're interested in psych. There are smaller places too, like Capital Medical Center in Olympia.

Link to St Joe's contract. They are all pretty comparable around here, from what I have found:

St. Joseph Medical Center – Tacoma - Washington State Nurses Association

Specializes in Certified Med/Surg tele, and other stuff.

It's SEIU1199NW

Specializes in Certified Med/Surg tele, and other stuff.

Pay is less in Pierce county than king county, sad to say.

Specializes in Certified Med/Surg tele, and other stuff.

Franciscan is St. Joseph in Tacoma, St. Claire in Lakewood,

St. Anthony in Gig Harbor, Harrison in Bremerton, Highline in Burien. Also St. Francis in Federal Way, and St. Elizabeth in Enumclaw. :)
