Right now though, it sounds like you have a lot going on. I would complete and pass the CNA program first, get a job and work for a while. Save up some money and then think about LVN school. Aslo, you might want to talk with your worker since you are on cash aid. Don't they have a program to assist you in finding a job or assist with training to enable you to become self-sufficient?

That is just my two cents and hope everything works out for you.

what is the wait list for the class? I would check w/the school for the most opportune time to apply for the program.

there are several pre-reqs for the LVN program. in the meantime, take the cna course, start working, and keep on top of it. start on the pre-reqs, of which there are several. FAS offers many classes, so why not take one in medical terminology, math, or something that illustrates some initiative. those will also look good on your application.

FAS's LVN program is tuition-free. check w/them or your cash aid worker about financial assistance. most likely, there is something available at no/low cost to you. you may even be able to attend full-time school while receiving aid. do you know the rules?

i am taking the pre-reqs. ill be done wit them this jan. right before i start the cna program. and yah ive talked to my worker, they wont help pay for the lvn program at all, and yes i kno its tuiton free but the books alone are going to coast me alot of money. thats mainly what im worried about. uniform i can easily start buying then now so that wen i start and from my understanding fas dont have f-aid....

You can rent your books on chegg.com or see what deals you can find on half.com I had to do this for my first semester of ns and as I got the money for a book, I bought it. Where there is a will, there is a way. If this is what you want to do, you will find a way to make it work...

i'm also trying to get into the lvn program of june 2011 at fresno adult school. all i can do is hope and pray that i get in. My dilemma is by the time the program starts my baby will be 4 months old. I don't have issues with taking her to day care because i know my education will benefit my whole family in the future, but sometimes i wonder if leaving her so young in the care of others is not such a good idea?? by the way i've been studying overtime for the cnet.

I agree that you should finish your CNA before applying. Honestly you need to be studying for your enterence exam WAYYYYYYYY before applying because that's a major factor in whether you'll be accepted. You can apply for Fin Aid I think. Go talk to the school's financial aid office...there are alot of options when it comes to funding...some better than others. I found out about a couple scholarships and work related programs from fellow students in my program (LVN) and that was a HUGE help to me and my family.

The biggest issue isn't paying for the tuition/books etc... its not being able to work full time to help pay the rent, electric etc...

It's better to have a good plan before you apply. Think about how your going to keep a roof over your head when you're studying every night and can only manage to work part time (if at all). How are u going to afford transportation costs like gas and car insurance? Don't forget some programs now require you to have private health insurance too (that alone added almost $400 to my cost for the year)...couple that w/ the basics like food, water and electricity and you can see just by doing the math...you really need to plan this out really really well. Oh and if u have kids....daycare = $$$$$!

I'm not trying to deter you...just saying you'll fair better if your not worried constantly about whether your lights are going to be shut off or how your going to pay the water bill...hth.

Have you gone to your Full Employment Council? They have grants for people going into healthcare. You may want to go there and register with them and see where that takes you. I know you have to go through some workshops and such to qualify. It sounds as if, financially you would qualify. Good luck to you.

Just want to know if either one of you are in the class that just started in June?
