Okay so I just learned I passed my RN boards and I have been an LPN for almost 3 years. For more than 2 of those years I have worked in a really great newer ltc facility. That offers average or slightly higher in terms of wages (i think, haven't worked that many places but it is one of the highest offers, and relatively low stress) plus annual raises, though they have capped them recently. I informed my supervisor of passing my nclex, via e-mail as I rarely see anyone in management because I work mostly weekends. She e-mailed back stating she would put my raise through and what my new pay would be. It was slightly less than what I was hoping for (only +$3.19 from current wage) especially considering they do not offer shift or w/e diffs, plus I have the 'worst' schedule of any other full time employee, when not in school am more flexible than most, and am really dedicated to the facility.

I do understand that in ltc the duties do not change much if any between lpn (i was iv cert too) and RNs. But what is a normal as far as percent increase from lpn to rn?? Should I ask if it is pay scale based or up for negotiation?? Or should I just be grateful for a job keep working all the same?

I don't want to sound greedy, but I have worked really hard this year (during my lpn-rn bridge).

I would take the job, get a year of experience then look around for other higher paying opportunities. If they are there, take them.

I would also take the job and look around for the next opportunity. An RN only made one dollar an hour more than the LVNs at one facility where I worked, so I would consider myself blessed to get a $3 + raise with the new license.

okay, I really like it there, have had good evals, and an overall good experience. I just did not know if it was appropriate to at least ask if it was negotiable.

It sorta depends on where you work location wise, if the roles aren't that different, they aren't going to give you much additional. My new potential opportunity I will only be making 4/hr more than an LVN, but he has experience in that area, I do not. And that's with my BSN.

In this economy, to have them offer you the new role plus a several dollar raise, is pretty decent. It sounds like they do value you. I'm sorry it isn't as much as you were hoping for though.
