So it seems to be my destiny to get cracking on this nursing school business while I stand a chance at being stationary for more than a year. Don't ya love the military?
At any rate, I'm hoping I can swing admission into UCCS's accelerated BSN program in May 2009. To do that, I have a lot of prereqs to finish up. I'm thinking I can do the non-lab classes at PPCC, since it's closer to where I currently live, and do everything else online, probably through the CCConline thing I found tonight.
Am I out of my mind, at this point in time, thinking I can do 4 lab classes (the second chem class, both A&Ps, and Micro) in 3 semesters? And do Cultural Anthropology, 1 humanities class, nutrition, and two psych classes online in the next 15 months?
Any other online places that y'all might recommend, perhaps where I can the classes self-paced online and not be tied into the semesters at the brick and mortar place? I had a couple places bookmarked last month and then lost all the bookmarks (Firefox sucks at times).
Any input, advice, assistance, whatever, is greatly appreciated.
I plan to head to Ft Carson on Monday to the ed center to take care of the in-state tuition paperwork and get registered as a student at PPCC so I can register for a lab science class for the summer when that opens up, but I need coursework until then.
Thanks for whatever you have to offer me. :)

Depends on what else is going on in your life - kids, job, taking care of elderly parents etc. Also depends on your level of determination, and support. If your husband can help, it can be done if you want it badly enough. Good luck in your efforts, and thanks for the military service.

Given the military angle, we have no elderly parents around to deal with. Heck, we're 600 miles from the nearest relative and that's considered close for us.
My husband is not home at this time and my daughter is old enough she's cool with the whole thing and childcare is a non-issue.
My employment is now not an issue and that is what's pointing me back in this direction for the 2nd time in a year. It's time, I think.
Just looking for some direction, I guess.

welcome to the springs!
I am doing the same thing. Or at least I'm trying! I have had to start over so I think it may take a year and a half. I am hopefully going to begin the RN program at ppcc in a year. I am taking 12 credits now and hope to take Aand P and Micro in the same semester.
I am a military spouse too. Are you Army? You mentioned Ft. Carson. My husband is USAF. We have gone from Peterson to Schriver.
Welcome

Your plan definitely sounds doable to me. I'm also a military wife, so welcome.
You may have to take more than 12 credit hours a semester, but with no small children around, you should be fine. I don't have children and I regularly took 15 credit hours a semester at PPCC. My only advice to you is to make sure you space your sciences out properly, since BIO 201 is a pre-req for BIO 202, etc. Unless you plan on asking the department for a waiver.
Unfortunately, I don't have any knowledge of self paced online classes. I've taken two directly through PPCC, and I found that they actually required a lot more of my time than attending lecture classes.
Good luck!

Well it can be done. I am a UCCS accelerated grad and did manage to finish my pre-reqs in the year prior to starting the nursing curriculum. I had 8 classes to complete and did it at UCCS, including interim class (I know nutrition can be taken at UCCS as an interim course). The key is that you won't be able to do much else other than go to class and study.
I know a couple of people who took classes at PPCC, but more through UCCS. The A&P course at UCCS rocks - tough, but excellent.
Start as soon as you can and have all your duck in a row.
And I'm diving in. 15 months to complete my last 9 prereqs. 5 regular classes and 4 lab classes.
Taking cultural anthropology and human nutrition online through PPCC and that starts Monday.
I need to find the Bio department chair at PPCC to try to get a waiver on the bio requirement to get into the lab classes in May. I'm hopeful that I can, since I already have one of the lab classes done.
Now, may we be stationed here long enough to get this whole shebang done...2.5 more years.

Hi!
When I move out that way.....I would be happy to help you if you need any help with anything.
:nuke:
Well, I met with my adviser at UCCS to make sure my ducks are all in a row. She pointed me to the correct person at PPCC to discuss a waiver. I never would've found those people on my own, especially with them at a different campus than the one I use for most things. I met with the PPCC adviser last week and have a signed waiver for fall semester.
So, with four weeks left in the spring semester, my summer semester will be gen psych and chem 102; fall is intro to philosophy, dev psych, and A&P 1, and spring 2009 will be micro and A&P 2. Do all of this at PPCC then move over to UCCS in May 2009.
God willing and the Army cooperates, of course.
The other very interesting thing I learned is this: online classes are $60 MORE expensive per credit hour than taking them on campus. I've got my schedules planned so I'll only be on campus a couple days a week so not even the gas expense makes that extra expense worth it. I didn't really have a choice for this semester, since I was a late-starter, but I sure as heck am NOT taking online classes again.
At any rate, life and my dream of a BSN is looking good these days...:)
woot woot woot!!!!!
how was that nutrtion class online?
i need 1 more class summer and was going to take psy 235 but it is only on friday from 8-12.30!! too long for me. so maybe nutrtion since i'm taking a and p in summer
I absolutely love it. A lot of work, as it's online and not face to face, but I've loved the class.
