Will be taking the NET next week. Reviewing the math, I've been out of school for almost 30 years. I know how to do the math, just can't remember the rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions, finding percentages etc. hence the studying. What do I need to concentrate on in order to pass. How much algebra is there?
Do they count questions not answered as wrong?
Thanks for your help!

When I studied for the NET test, I went to the library and took some 7-9th grade math books. Those have helped me review and pass the test.

well my NET test was exactly those things. multiplying, dividing, percents and fractions. To find percentages, the following equation helps: is/of = x/100.
for example, 25 is what percent of 125?
25/125=x/100. to find a percent, you always want to put x over 100. then you cross multiply. So, 25 x 100 = 125x. solve for x.
Or, what is 50 percent of 300?
x/300=50/100. (the percent is over 100) cross multiply: 100x = 50 x 300. solve for x.
when dividing or multiplying fractions, always put them into an improper fraction. ex: 6 3/4 = 27/4 5 1/2 = 11/2
when multiplying, go straight across the top and the bottom, then reduce to it's lowest terrm.
when dividing, you use the reciprocal (when you flip the fraction over), and then multiply. SO: 3/4 divided by 7/8 = 3/4 x 8/7 = 24/28 = 6/7
hope that helps.

why did you wait so late to start practice? You need to buy some math books that focus on those areas. You maybe a little late but maybe visit borders or a library and sit in there and practice. I hope you pass with flying colors
Thanks for the info ladies. I guess I wasn't clear in my post that I know how to do the math, I'd forgotten the "rules", (invert to divide) that's the reason that I've been studying.
What I was concerned about is if there is algebra. Also on some test, if you leave an answer blank, they don't count it against you and on other tests, they say you should go ahead and guess as a blank answer will be counted wrong..
Anyway, wish me luck and again thanks for the input.

If I were you guys I would worry less about the math ..the 1st part of the test 60 questions...get the study guide it will prepare you!. and worry more about the reading comp part. this is the 6th part of the test and the schools weight it very heavily!

You can purchase study guides and practice tests from Center for Nursing Education and Testing, Inc., POB 8069, Jersey City, NJ 07308. They have a ph. number also: 201-217-9083. Maybe they can get them to you via the Internet so you can bone up.
Good luck to you and I hope you pass!
math.com has some helpful tips on their site. I used it for myself.

I took it three weeks ago and had only a week to study. We had no say in when we were taking the test, only that we were to show up and that was our only chance, so yeah, STRESS. lol
Anyway, I'm horrible at math (I've never taken a college math class that I didn't have to repeat), so I was scared witless. I went to the bookstore and got this book called Super Review Basic Math and Pre-Algebra (less than 10 bucks). That book along with the NET Review book helped me sooo much. The problems were exactly like the ones from those books. I still panicked when I took the math portion (it was only 30 questions...I thought it was going to be 60), and felt like I bombed, but I must've known more than I thought because I passed! My score is a mystery though, they just sent us letters telling us we were either in or out of the program...how mean is that? Ugh.
Good luck!! The worst part of that exam really is the nerves!
Thanks for all the info... I took the test and scored a 60% on the math portion. The tech school wants a 72% passing score but go figure, one community college only wants a 41% and the other wants a 59%.
If I want to wait for an opening at the commuity colleges I'm good to go or I can study more and try again in two weeks at the tech school.
If I pass at the tech school, I'm guaranteed an opening in January otherwise at the CC I'll have to wait until August. Decisions, decisions.
