Thanks for your reply!!! so what's it like? is it completely different to work as a nurse after working in the NHS (obvious question...) Any contacts that you can throw at me would be more than appreciated. I'll be in LA next week and would love to initiate my transition, however am wasting tons of time combing my way through lists of agencies. I'll only be in town for 5 days and want to squeeze in some vacation time too.
Look forward to hearing from you! Rob x

Hi Terry and thanks for replying to my message! Yes, any information that you could throw in my direction would be great. What is registry nurse, and what makes the position so independent? (I'm trying to come to terms with new terminology and equate them to english equivalents!). I work as a nurse advisor for an enteral feeding company here in London, and work incredibly independently. Basically, I need to find a sponsor and am overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of LA healthcare facilitators - have mailed off lots of initial enquiries and heard nothing back! (You'd think that may be a sign )
Anyways, thanks for your offer of assistance and i look forward to hearing from you soon.

Before checking out any agencies, you need to complete the requisite exams and complete the application for Visa Screen You can do this through
http://www.CGFNS.org. Once that is completed, you can have either a hospital or agency sponsor you. No difference. Visa Screen is a requirement for any foreign trained nurse wishing to work in the US, who wants a green card and even for H1-B after July, 2004. Since you trained in English, you are exempt from those exams. You will need to write NCLEX for your license. First you will need to apply to the California State Board of Nursing before you can sit for the exam. After you are accepted by them, you will receive an "ATT" letter allowing you to take the exam. "ATT" stands for authorization to test.
California also required fingerprints. You might want to get that done while you are there. If you contact the board now, they can probably send a set to wheryou will be staying.
If you need further info, you can send me a PM.
Good luck.
