Help needed in NCLEX RN, plz...

Published

Hi all. This is my first time I am posting this thread. I am very much depressed as I failed 3 times NCLEX for last 7 months.First time i prepared using Saunders 5th edition, and i failed.Second time i prepared from Kaplan and scored most of their tests between 60 to 70% and readiness test 75% and yet failed. Two days ago i tested for 3rd time. I used Ncsbn online review, lacharity and Saunders. I failed with 117 questions. Now anybody can suggest me and give some advice regarding study materials and sources to pass next time.I am getting down .........................

do you think youre lacking knowledge of content? i studied by going over the material i was weak on or had forgotten. i am a visual person so i used note cards. i took these note cards with me most of the time, even when i was not at home. this may sound funny but even when washing dishes id study look over these cards haha..i used kaplan, ati and lacharity to study. kaplan also has a book they sell (not the coursebook which is included with the kaplan course) that provided very helpful strategies on how to eliminate options. read the rationales! i imagine you did, but make sure you understand it. i did about 150 questions a day. there were days when i felt like i didnt want to answer questions, but i compensated these lazy times by reading a topic in my books.

since nclex tests you on basic knowledge, study on fundamentals again. know your fundamentals. after all, we'd need to know the basics working as new nurses. study a little bit of everything. when you find that the material is getting tedious, change it up. thats how i did it.

lastly, dont think of yourself as a failure. brush the previous ones off. this is just a test. youve passed nursing school with all those crazy exams it put you up against, dont let one test bring you down. i also thought of nclex as being on my side in the sense that it will try very hard to let you pass. try to see if your nerves got the best of you and what you can do next time to control this.

Have you receive the post- nclex report (the one from the mail)?..

Maybe start assessing your weak areas first, then rudy the rest..

I have read some inspiring success stories here, and somehow that makes you go and move on to taking it one more time.

Thank you for your supporting word.I will try everything this time and i am planning to join Kaplan online review once again.

Still waiting for postal result.

Still waiting for postal result.

when you do..look at what areas your weak in..and focus on those...then practice as many questions, when you practice many questions you will start seeing a pattern of how questions are asked in different ways and makes you think in a different way. read the rationales..understanding why it was right or wrong, if it means spending two days learning one topic then do that....sometimes i took my time to lean say Endocrine content even if it meant spending 3/4 days. remember that the more content you know you will be to answer more right than wrong. many times most of the answers are right especially when you start answering high level questions but you have to chose the best answer. All the best..you can do it. we are here if you have any questions... remember you can always PM :)

It also helps not to over think. Focus on content. Forget the past and move forward. Make a study schedule, go to the library. Most importantly, stay focused.Review your weak areas, go over it twice before doing questions. Go over rationales both right and wrong answers. Most importantly, don't give up. You will pass!

I passed after my 4th attempt! i had also tried Kaplan, exam cram and Hurst and found Kims review the most helpful. I only bought two of the books she listed. The Kaplan course book and the prioratizion book.

dont give up!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey there,

Do not feel so discouraged because you not the only one.I am appearing for the 5th time and trying my best to do whatever i can.Have you ever used Nclex 4000 questions to practice??I never used that before appearing the nclex. But this time i am using that to practice questions and making note to revise on the last minute.I suggest you to read a strategy book from kaplan which explain you the most important thing that plays a vital role in NCLEX-RN exam.

Take care

I too know how you feel. I am getting ready to tesr for the fifth time. I graduated in 2010 and life has got in the way. I lost my fiance to leukemia right after i graduated. If you want a study buddy just send me a private message. We need to beveach others cheer leaders and get through this. I just think NCLEX is the devil lol. Well back to studying.
