Thinking of the top of my head:
Nurses should carry their own malpractice insurance
Nurses should unionize
Nursing Mandation is unavoidable
Nursing Education Minimum Entry should be BSN degree
"A Nurse is a Nurse" and can be assigned to any hospital unit
PS look in activism section for plenty of ideas or student forum

Here's one I'm struggling with myself right now:
Should a nurse attempt to orient a confused pt to reality, or just play along with the delusion?

Click this link for a wealth of info you can use for a presentation on nursings most pressing, important, front-running topic right now..... RN working conditions and patient safety. There are several key issues identified. Each person in your group could focus on one of them. Its all nicely laid out in the link below:

When in school our group (actually just 2 of us) did Pain Management "issues and misconceptions" as ours. We had a wealth of info on the net, in books and journals to choose from. Good luck and let us know what you decide, ok?

to give or not give a transplant(ie should an alcoholic be given a liver...should a child who needs a transplant be given one when the family refuses to consent, etc)
what aspects of nursing improve patient outcome(example: more RN's and not longer hours, sufficient help during transfers, imrpved overall job satisfaction, etc)
Back injuries in nursing( should nursing entail just "sucking it up", should back injuries come with the territory or is enough enough and should steps be taken by agencies to prevent these injuries, also what factors contribute: ex: lack of staff, awkward positioning, lifting beyond physical reccomendations for ones size, etc.)
If I think of any I'll let you know. I just got woken up once again by my loud roomate who does not have class until 6pm, when I have to get up at 6 or 7 am. She doesnt seem to care:(
