I've been looking through this forum, and I have found a lot of answers to some of my questions but I thought I would ask anyway. My husband recently was offered a job at Dewitt Army Hospital in Fort Belvoir. I know that Fort Belvoir is in Fairfax county and that Fairfax county is very, very expensive to live in, my question is where are the better places to live in the area.? I am a RN and my husband will be making a decent salary there, but I don't want to move somewhere with a very high cost of living. Also, what are some of the best hospitals to work for in that area? I have 2 years of experience as a trauma nurse at a level I trauma center here in the southeast and of course I want to work in the emergency department. Also, what is the pay scale for nurses in this area--I can tell you that nurses here where I live make around $22.00/hr base pay as a brand new graduate--does it compare up there? Thanks for you help--my husband is really interested in this job, but I am not so sure because I don't want to move somewhere where we can't afford to live.

Prince William County...Woodbridge,Dale City, Manassas. The cost of living is still high in this area but I'm sure your combined salaries will allow you to live comfortably. There are some nice houses in Woodbridge around the 300k range and lower, now is the time to buy if you are looking to do so. But then there's the traffic which is horrible in this area. I live in Woodbridge which is a nice area and the commute from Woodbridge to Fort Belvoir is pretty short.

If you get outside the beltway, house prices are better. I believe new RN's at INOVA and Reston get around $25/hr.

Inova Fairfax is the Northern Virginia area's Level I. And as flames9 said, Inova new grad RNs do indeed start at $25/hr. :)
I did my OB rotation at INOVA Fairfax and currently my Psych rotation, its a busy hospital!!

How soon are you looking to move? The reason I'm asking is because I graduate in December and I need some one to take over my lease. There are some locations in Alexandria offering bangup apt. rates from about $849-899 (FoxChase -- I believe). You can find cheap deals on apt's as well in Arlington (in the ghetto though). I wouldn't recommend Cantebury Square Apts across from Ft. Belvoir though - not unless it's very temporary.
In any case, PM if you're interested in more information about my apt....A rather helpful website www.apartmentratings.com (although you may want to consider taking what some people say with a grain of salt) is pretty informative on the low-down of some area apt's....and if you're looking to buy -- I'd really suggest renting an apt. while you look around for a home to purchase -- unless of course you don't mind offering your soul as part of the down payment
