I was offered 2 rn positions. I accepted them both
job 1 starts tomorrow
job 2 starts next 2 weeks-
i was planning to go through orientation for about a week or 2 with job 1 and if i dont like it tell them i changed my mind and just stick with job 2 which starts in 2 weeks.
can i get in trouble for that?
i am a new rn and its my first job its just that i didnt want to miss out with out trying it out first. i figured that if it worked out with job 1 i would inform job 2 that i had changed my mind .
thanks to you all for your advice

Well unless you want to have a bad reputation starting out your nursing career I would HIGHLY recommend you not do this. ANY employer should get a 2 weeks notice prior to you leaving a position. If you start this new job tomorrow and then stay 2 weeks until the next job starts you will not be able to do that. This will follow you in your career. Not to mention the money and time they will put into starting your training only to possibly have you leave, I think, is ethically wrong. I can understand you not wanting to "miss" some good employment opportunity but what can you REALLY know about a job in only 2 weeks. This is just my opinion and I am sure some others will just say go for it, but if it were you training someone, who is trained in a profession where professionalism is a HUGE part of the job, just for them to up and leave, that could be a hard start for your career.
GOOD LUCK with your decision.

I agree with nurz2be. If anyone in your community finds out about it, you'll be starting your career with a really bad reputation. Even if no one else ever finds out, you will be ******** one of the employers here. Is that really the kind of person you want to be?

I agree with everyone else. This looks bad on you if you decide to do it. If the job is anything like when I started my job your first two weeks will be mostly learning about things like HIPPA and disaster preparedness and basically what is and isn't policy. You won't actually start on the floor as a nurse for about a month, that is if they do things the way my employer does them. So, I don't think you will really have an idea if you will like the job or not for a month or so. I had two job offers and took the one that I thought would be a good fit for me, the place I felt most comfortable at. Good luck. :icon_cheesygrin:
ok i think i will go to the orientation tomorrow at job 1 and tell them i have changed my mind and just take job 2 thats fars away as thats the one i am more comfortable with.
how does that sound?
that way they wont have to waste their time training me for nothing
what should i say?

What if job #2 happens to be worse than job #1?

I know it is too late as Kendel has already gone to work today ... but what she should do is tell the person in charge of the orientation that she will not be staying. She should say that her personal circumstances have changed and that she has decided not to accept their job at this time. If asked, she can say that another job opportunity has just become available that better fits her personal needs at this time.
She should sincerely apologize for any trouble or inconvenience she has caused and thank them for their generous offer.

Thank you all for all your great advice and help
even though I have been scolded for what I have done, I want you all to know that I accept that I might not have handled things the best way.
I finally musseled up enough guts to tell job#1... I can no longer take the position.
I dont know what to expect now but i guess my life is in gods hands now as i cant predict the future as to what will happen now.
I am a bit relieved though as I believe now i started doing the right thing and will learn from what I have done.
I am humble at heart..realy
I spoke to a friend of mine that works on the floor and told her i was sorry but i would not be going to her hospital any more
Her response: dont regret it because " I was going to call you today to let you know this place is stressful, today one of the nurses started cursing at the doctor telling him F this bkank blank his mother this blank blank........ throwing f bombs at the doc loudly
she even said theres little or no supplies on the floor and the other day they had to call a code on a pt who was not breathing, every one rushed into the room including my friend. the Doctor yelled "Pass me the Non REbreather Mask........ but
there was none on the floor another nurse had to go to another floor to search and by the time the nurse got back pt had died.
sooooooo... thats the story tell me what you all think now
thanks ladies and guys if there are any

I think personally in your gut you knew this was the right thing to do and the right thing is sometimes the hardest. I am SURE that all this will turn out to be in your best interest. Remember you are a nurse now and you have to listen to your gut, it will saves lives one of these days.
GOOD LUCK and keep us apprised as to how your NEW job works out.
