Hi, I am going to be graduating in May this year. I just found out that I am pregnant and am due Sept 26th. I am so scared of what this means for me. I really wanted to have another baby, but I was going to wait until I had a year experience first.
What I need help with is, I don't know if I should wait to apply for jobs until after I deliver the baby. From what I hear, I wont get my license until beginning of Sept anyway. Or, should I try to get a job at a hospital where they will employ you as a RN intern or PCA until you get your license, and work for a few months, then go on leave. Or just try to obtain a job and let them know that I would start in Oct some time.
I am just very confused and dont know what to do. I really want to be happy, and know that I will be, but the uncertainty of it all is killing me. I am kind of depressed. I feel like I worked so hard for this, and now I cant even get out there and start working for months after I graduate.
Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks and sorry so long!

I would suggest getting a job as an RN just because that way if they fire you, you at least have some experience and if they don't well you have job. You have to consider two things. One your baby. Is it safe for you to work? Do you think your body will handle it? Second can you find a job? My friend was expecting when she got her license and a couple of managers turned her down because she was.
My advice is do whatever is safer for your health and your babies health.
Congrats on the baby!!!

I would wait until after you have the baby to start looking for jobs for 2 reasons: 1-being a new nurse is stressful enough without having to go to the bathroom every 5 minutes, hips, back and everything aching. 2-You aren't eligible for FMLA until you've had 1 year of service at a job. So that means they don't HAVE to hold your job for you until you're ready to go back to work. I work with a girl who is having that problem so she is having to have approval from our director to take leave. And it is up to our director how much time she will approve her for so you can bet your bottom dollar, she will be back to work when her baby is 6 weeks, 1 day old. I have my baby in August and I will have been in my current position for a year in July so I barely dodged that bullet myself. And also, if you wait to look for a job, you can take as much time as you want and need with your infant before being rushed back to work. But that's just my opinion; you have to do what you feel is best for you. Good luck with your baby!
Thank you both for your advice. This is such a hard decision. I do currently work in a hospital doing clerical work, so I would be able to attempt to transfer and keep my seniority. I guess I just think, who is going to hire a six month pregnant/new nurse.
Thanks again for your advice.
