Help! Need advice concerning Jackson Memorial in Miami and pay-rate!

Well how much do you get paid on staff now? Do you think it would be worth traveling for $28.90? Remember traveling incurrs expenses on its own. My first assignment was about $27.00 up from $20.41. I thought it was a good move and left! I have since retired from traveling (traveled 1 year) and make more $$$$ now on staff than I did traveling. Its up to what you think is best. Good luck.

I worked at Jackson Memorial in the operating room for a year and a half, before I started traveling. Florida in general does not pay as good as other states. I am very impressed they offered you $28.90. I think that is a great offer! The cost of living in Miami is also very high. I loved working there! The people were friendly, and it was great nursing experience. It's a huge Level 1 Trauma Center with 1100 beds. It's one of the best hospitals in the nation.

-Don't live close to the hospital, it's in a bad area.

- You will know Spanish and Creole by the time you leave. :)

- Miami is alot of fun! There is so much to do and see. It's a great cultural

experience.

I've orginally from Miami. If you live in an area where you can catch the Metrorail then you wouldn't have to drive to Jackson Memorial as the train will let you off right there. As a hospital, Jackson Memorial is a GREAT place to work, it is a "teaching" hospital and like previously stated, Level 1 Trauma Center which all looks great on the resume. Most of the staff that work there, stay there, for obvious reasons. If you'd like any information on Miami, please contact me.

Hi everyone, My husband and i are relocating to south florida and i was offered a job at jackson memorial and UM both for OR. which hospital is better?? which has more incentives in the long run? If someone is familiar with either or both hospitals, please let me know..i havent discussed pay with either one yet, so if anyone knows what the pay would be for a new grad, that would be great too!! thanks.

Not sure what the going rates are for new grads in Miami anymore but OR usually pays higher than Med/Surg as it is considered a "speciality" area. Both Jackson Memorial and UM are GREAT hospitals to work for. Jackson has retirement as does UM which is rare in most hospitals these days although you do have to get vested. UM is considered part of the University of Miami so the benefits are similar and if you have a college bound student they get either free tuition or close to it if you are an employee of the hospital.

1. the pay is $28.90/hr working days in sicu. is that a reasonable payrate? i have 2.5 years experience in icu.

hello, as of feb, the pay rates for reg staff were around roughly $33/hr (2 years experience). reg staff also get differential and of course benefis. for a traveler, are they offering you housing or a housing stipend? as a traveler the agencies will knock of some money from your hourly because you are getting housing or a housing stipend. those additional amounts you may receive should be taken into account.

Salaries effective thru the end of 2008 can be found on pages 70-71 of the SEIU 1991 (union) agreement for JMH which you will find the link for at the end of this posting. Hope it helps. Money aside for the moment- I started as a new grad in the ER on main campus and I absolutely loved it! I returned to NY to my family but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about that place. It is truly an experience - They say ....... "Only at Jackson".....

Did you go to UM for nursing school?

I graduated UM 05 and got offered 2 jobs at JMH on in Peds ER and one in Adult ER.

I still miss the fact that i have no ER experience.

I moved back to Colorado because FNP school was MUCH cheaper than UM.

Are you doing travelling jobs in NY now? I"m thinking of maybe going there for travel, hopefully as a FNP..but maybe in the spring.
