  1. Hello, as an employee I am 100% positive they no longer hire ADNs. Try HHC with full understanding that with yet another big hospital closing it's a zoo out there!!! So many qualified applicants and not enough positions. It is really sad. Good luck! Also try clinics or nursig homes but even then everyones got their belts buckled really tight!
  2. MY thoughts exactly!! But either way, I believe its worth it- education is invaluable and the career is recession proof!
  3. Oh, my real point was if you don't want to work in CT, Valhalla, NY is not far at all from Stamford. Well, at least in comparison to NYC.
  4. Hey littlenewbie, I cant give you a estimate for the hospitals. however, here is a little advice. If you live in CT, while many people commute- there is a HUGE hospital in Valhalla, NY -Westchester Medical Center. Only Level 1 trauma center in the region and lots to learn, shorter, cheaper commute, and more money. I wanted to take an agency position there but I did not because I am moving to Brooklyn. If I were you, would definitely look into it!!!!!!
  5. Charlee, I did sign up with a company called TFC staffing and billing. it's located in NY. I have yet to take an assignment with them though. I am hoping to try and find work without the help of the agency. There is a way to apply directly for an NPI without paying what I paid ($125) for the agency to handle the paperwork. However, it is A LOT of paper i must say. You can go to this link....http://www.cms.hhs.gov/cmsforms/downloads/CMS10114.pdf that is a link to the initial application and there may be a phone number where you can get more information. I don't know how much this will help but Good luck and if you need help finding out more info let me know. Dee
  6. Where was this place located?(I sent you an email) Dee
  7. Hello, I recently applied for an NPI number and Medicaid provider number to do "independent contract" work, however, Idid it thru a company that provides me with family contact information. I turn, they get 15% of what i make as a "fee". I too want to break away from this. If ido find anything in the way of a list i will let you know.BTW, is it home care you are doing? Where are you located? Dee
  8. I have had two types of experience with this: When I was on staff at a hospital in FL- It was not allowed until we trauma-rolled the pt and checked pt for tenderness. If the er doc had any doubts-we would xray stat then remove the board given there are no serious injuries seen on xray. Now that I am in NY I see things are sometimes done differently. I see NURSES do trauma roll and remove the boards themselves(without assistance from a physician at times I don't know if this is a facility specific policy or practice, but I leave it to immobilize the pt until the xrays confirm absence of injury. Pts usually understand.
  9. Salaries effective thru the end of 2008 can be found on pages 70-71 of the SEIU 1991 (union) agreement for JMH which you will find the link for at the end of this posting. Hope it helps. Money aside for the moment- I started as a new grad in the ER on main campus and I absolutely loved it! I returned to NY to my family but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about that place. It is truly an experience - They say ....... "Only at Jackson"..... Good luck everyone...contact me via email if you need further info/insight, and remember - an opinion is just that!- an opinion. If we listened to others ALL the time, half of us would not be where we are today. http://www.seiu1991.org/docUploads/RN_FULL_CONTRACT_05_08.pdf
  10. hello, as of feb, the pay rates for reg staff were around roughly $33/hr (2 years experience). reg staff also get differential and of course benefis. for a traveler, are they offering you housing or a housing stipend? as a traveler the agencies will knock of some money from your hourly because you are getting housing or a housing stipend. those additional amounts you may receive should be taken into account.
  11. It is a county (government) facility.
  12. Have you followed up with the facilities via phone? What does your resume look like? Also, take into consideration not everyone works the way we would like them to. I.E.- I put in an application at 2 different HHC facilities 4 months ago. Last week, when I least expected it- I was called for interview. Sometimes these things take time. However, you should register at advance for nurses online. There is another career fair coming up in Nov i believe. (Though I think its in westchester). Many facilities in the tri-state area recruit at these fairs. Hope that helps....Dee
