So, I was supposed to be starting school on May 20, taking a biology class. Today I got a call from the school saying I will have to pay over $900 before I could start the class. Although I have a $2k HOPE Scholarship, the school says it will only pay $700 because of the amount of hours I'm taking and I have to pay the remainder.
The problem is, I will have to add one more class before I'm eligible to take out a loan to pay for this class. That's where my issues come in. For God's sake, I'm taking biology in a 4 week session & scared to add another class because I don't want to mess up my grades, but then again If I don't it will put me back a whole semester before I will be able to apply to nursing school. I'm supposed to apply in Feb 2014, but if I wait I will have to apply Aug. 2014 & wont be able to start until 2015.
What do you guys suggest? I'm sure I can make an A by adding another class (anything is possible), but it seems like it will be soo hard & I don't want to overwork myself.
Another thing, I only have 2 classes on schedule so far (a PE & Biology w/ Lab) & those classes alone are about $1600. Does that sound too expensive? Do you guys think I should do it? Help .. I need some insight. Classes start next week so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

If it were me I would do it.
It sounds expensive, but it's not unheard of. I also took summer classes last year and paid $500-$700 per unit.
I think adding another class is doable. If you know you can do it, then I say go for it. Don't be afraid. Yes, you might be overworked but its only for a short time frame. The days and weeks will fly by. I completed 3 science classes with A's over a 5 week period, and I actually preferred it over a longer semester. It forced me to study daily and not procrastinate one bit. Stressful and time consuming, but well worth it if you can find the financial means to do it. You will be making good use of the summer. And won't have to wait another semester.
For some people, they don't want to wait because they are pressed for time due to age, they want to enter the workforce ASAP, or want to start applying ASAP, etc. Just depends on your situation. But, if you aren't in a hurry to graduate. And you don't have the money. Then I would consider waiting.

Wow that's expensive but if its paid for by all means add an "easy" class I.e. interpersonal communication, psych 101... Those types of classes. Where I live it's $65 a credit. Huge difference. Either way, good luck!

It sounds expensive if this is a local community college, right on par if it's a public university, and cheap if it's a private college.
Is there anyway you could possibly add another class during the summer II term? that way it would still count as total summer hours but would not start until the bio course has completed.
Thanks for the responses. I added a literature class. I guess I have to be completely stressed out for one more semester, but it's only for one month so I can do it. I'm in no hurry to graduate, I just don't want to be in school pass my 4 years mark. I can get the money from my mom instead of taking out a loan, but hopefully the added hours will give me my full HOPE & I won't have to worry about the money aspect. But in reality, if I did have to take out a loan to complete summer classes I think it would be totally worth it in the long run. Once again thanks!
203bravo: Yes, its a public university. I planned on working term II for the summer & there are no good classes available for me term II unless I want a class that won't count towards my pre-reqs. I'll just have to complete them term I.
