HELP for NCLEX-PN please

Published

I am scheduled to take my NCLEX-PN exam on the 28th of this month. I graduated back in July this year and because our school made us wait a month before releasing us I felt like my time between was used by me studying not consistantly with no plan because I did not have a test date yet.... Now I have a plan and I've been using Kaplan (what our school recommend) Q banks but I'm nervous because I've been making high 50s with an average of 57 (Ive taken SO many and can't seem to make any higher! And yes I've watched all their videos and made notes in my book) I want to know the likelihood of me passing nclex with those scores. Also I do use the NCLEX PN mastery app.. Are these sufficient resources to study by? Please help I don't have much longer and don't want to postpone my date due to high anxiety :(

It is hard to say with any confidence if those scores are enough to pass or not. As each NCEX PN is different in its content. When you are getting your final scores, is there a specific trend you are seeing that is lower than the others? Make note of those, and that should be your focus in studying the content--by going back to your textbook. looking at your class notes.

Good luck, and I am not sure I would keep postponing, rather focus this time on subjects that you need to.

FWIW, your school not releasing your info to the BoN had ZERO bearing on whether you studied effectively or not. It seems like you are blaming the school for keeping you from studying well....? That would be a strange thing to focus blame on, IMHO. If you didn't put a study plan into effect until a month after you graduated, that's no one's fault but yours.

That said, there's no real way to know if you're prepared for the NCLEX other than how well YOU feel about it. Scores in the high 50's with Kaplan isn't a problem; people have reported passing with those scores all the time.

As long as you understand the rationales behind the answers....as long as you have done LOTS of questions so that you're familiar with the kind of questions NCLEX will ask you.....you should be fine!

Good luck :)

Yes, there are two specific areas that I am trying to improve specifically because I am scoring lower in those areas. I don't think I will postpone the test any longer. Thank you for your answer.

I in no way was blaming the school for me not having a study schedule. I simply stated that because we weren't released until a month later I didn't have a study plan because I didn't know when I would be able to test. I felt like when I picked my date it was easier to set goals.

Thanks.

Ok. It did look like you were placing a blame before you even TOOK the test, which seemed odd. Maybe it's just how I read it. Thing is, I guess what I'm saying is that it doesn't matter that you didn't know when your testing date would be, exactly: you knew you were going to test at some point in the next few months, yes? So....the thing to do is simply to START.

Maybe you would find it easier to have a set target right from the minute you graduated, but my point is that it honestly doesn't matter: if you're ready, you're ready!

Some people study right up until the last minute before the exam (I definitely don't recommend this!) and others are 'done' a week or more before, feeling burnt out on the studying thing. It's ok to just stop at some point and give it a rest :)

Anxiety aside, this will be over before long and you will look back and realize it wasn't a big deal...just one more test! You can do this :)

hey, so i just took my NCLEX tues and found out i passed today in 85 questions. I graduated beginning of august, i took a week off for my birthday and vacation and after that i hopped on the studying. I didn't even have my att number yet. Why? because you need at least month to prep. Now i oringinally had october 6 but i moved it up to almost a month earlier because my school uses ATI and i got the green light from that. Aside from that, i used kaplan q bank which i found EXTREMELY helpful because the questions were on the same level and the screen is exactly the same. I also had ATI which was for content. I used saunders but honestly i was not a big fan and won't be using that for RN. Exam cram i also tried and the questions were WAYYY TO EASY... so kaplan and ati were my GO TOs..

I also had the app, it helped with great memory aids, and its good when you are on the train or bus or something but it wasn't my main, some questions were just to far out there.

my q bank was about 50... and by the day before nclex it was 65%... i focused on only weak areas my last two weeks..pharm and maternity.. of course i only had two maternity and 3 pharm.

in summary just start now, i know having a goal and a set day is better but i lost a whole month and i was able to change my plan immediately.

good luck
