Help looking for work, RN on Probation

Nurses General Nursing

Hello All Nurses Community,

I am a med/tele nurse of over ten years who handled a patient fall poorly while working as a staff nurse. I regret my mistake everyday, but in the environment I was working I felt at that time what I did was all I could. The result is my license is now on probation for 3 years. Before this, I finally got the courage to work as a Travel/Registry nurse and had to resign due to the BRN of CA stipulations. Now I am having no luck trying to find work. I have tried hospitals up and down our fine state. I have tried many SNF, dialysis, volunteering and red cross. Once I mention my probation I am given the "thank you for coming, we will call you speech" I understand that not many people are willing to take a chance on a probation nurse esp in this economy. I am at wits end, I am willing to try anything at this point anywhere in CA, and would appreciate any advice (school, new career options, anything)

Thank you for reading

Would you consider school for a law degree? To help others through what you are going through?

Hi, I would like to talk to you. My story is much the same, at least the results. It's been going on for 2 years+ and I don't see an end in sight. I am at [email protected].

I'm wondering if you can apply for a phlebotomy job or a vaccination clinic? Or answer those craigslist ads for people looking for adult day care or respite care for aged loved ones.

I wish a group did exist to help us! I made a mistake, hired a lawyer, etc., and was told by my nursing board if I lost case, I could lose my license. Well, I am lucky that did not happen, just probation and A LOT OF MONEY! In a profession where we have to care for so many so much and not judge or discriminate, I feel like I threw away 20 years of hard work with no one out there to help and advise me now.:crying2:

I am a new grad and was granted a license from the Ohio State Board on probation with restrictions for a DUI that took place 6 years ago. Why does something hinder your license that happened well before you decided to go to nursing school and become a nurse? Doesn't going back to school indicate bettering yourself? It's hard enough for nurses in Ohio to find employment, especially the new grads. Does anyone have any advice for a new grad on probation with restrictions?
