Help!! Job offer dilemma.....

Published

Hello,

I have only worked at a hospital for 4 months. I started in the ER and am now on Telemetry. I have been offered a job at Kindred on their Telemetry floor. My dilemma is that I am a new nurse with only 4 months experience and am concerned that if I take the Kindred job that it will not be considered "Acute Care Experience" to another hospital after one year. Kindred is a Long Term Acute Care Hospital with patients that are acute care, but need to stay longer in the hospital..(20 days +)....Please if anyone could help me decide. I am currently driving 88 miles to work for the hospital job and kindred is within walking distance...

Thanks in advance...:nurse:

I would not work 88 miles from home if given the choice not to :). Acute care should be acute care, and if you are concerned about being able to go back to hospital nursing I think you are going to be fine.

Do you like your current job? I know you are driving far, but where I live, Kindred has a horrible reputation. Can you dig a little and find out if the one near you has adequate staffing and a better rep? If you like your current job I say stay and try to suck it up for at leat 6 months to a year. If not, long term acute care would give you some great skills, trachs and vents etc which would make you a good candidate for acute care later on. You will have to keep in mind that every interview you ever have will want a good explanation for leaving your first job so quickly and raise a red flag for them, but you can get past that if you stay at job 2 for a long time.

Are you driving 88 miles each way? Or 44 each way? Cuz that is a big difference. Anyway, you need to do what is right for you and what your gut is telling you to do.
