Hello, I need some help with my IV calculation practice test. I get how to do the calculations but this question is messing me up:

Levaquin 250 mg IV in 50cc D5W is to be infused over 1 hour. What is the drip rate?

Do I add 250 and 50 some how?

What is your drop factor? If your drop factor is 10gtts/min, 20gtts, 30gtts, or 60gtts do the problem as follow:

mL x drop factor / time (minutes) this will give you your answer.

Hope this helps

Its not given, so I guess I'm to assume 10, 15 or 20.

thank you

If the drop factor is not stated most of the time it's 60gtts. Does the question say minidrips or microdrips? If one of those than it's 60gtts :typing  :twocents:

No, the mg aren't part of your calculations. Only worry about the volume you're infusing.

We go by standard tubing if none is stated. 15gtt/ml

The question can't be completed because they left out the information about the drop factor of the IV tubing being used. The 250 mg of Levaquin has nothing to do with the calculation.
