Help!!! Im sooo confused!!!! (anyone please help me!!!)

hi everyone and anyone willing to help a really confused person . . . me!!! i am a student attending cerritos college here in california. i am currently working on my general ed and prerequisites to persue admission into the aa nursing program. i heard that cerritos college has a really long waiting list (like 1 -2 years), and that the requirements are really high considering the competitiveness.

this is my dilemma.

i am so confused about how college works sometimes.

i figure that if it takes one to two years to get admitted into the nursing program for cerritos, that i might as well try persuing my bsn. my question is, can i finish my prerequisites, general ed, and take the teas if asked for the aa, and while i wait during those 1-2 years for a response, can i also take the other courses that are needed to transfer to csulb? (i figure i might as well because i may get acceptance from csulb faster than the aa program if the wait list is too long)

now if i end up receiving acceptance to the aa program, can i just drop everything and persue that instead (of course only if i haven't invested too much time persuing the bsn)? i just don't know if the school allows that because they may say i have to pick one or the other, but i thought i could open my chances of getting into a program by submitting an application to both. also, does csulb have a waiting list, and if so, do they do the lottery thing also?

i really want to become a nurse, so any advice would be great!

Specializes in Home Care.

You need to get with an academic adviser at both of the schools you are interested in attending.

Specializes in ED,NICU,HH.

I agree, sit down with an adviser from wherever it is you're planning to apply to because they can help you figure out what will be the best fit.

It doesn't hurt to apply at both level, but I would keep taking as much of the gen. ed courses that are required for whichever level it is that you really want to pursue, while waiting to hear from the programs.

First off, why are you this confused while there are people from nursing department you can just walk in and talk to? You are going to Cerritos already. Just move your legs and walk to nursing building and ask the staff there already! If you are too lazy to walk, ask them through phone or email. If you prefer not to talk to anybody, just go onto their website...

I don't think there is a waitlist in Cerritos. They use lotto system.

About Cal State LB, again, google or search their site.

"Is there a waiting list to enter your nursing program?

We do not have a waiting list. We use a point system to find the best qualified students for admission each semester"

"If I applied last year and was not selected, does my application automatically get considered for next semester?

No! You must submit a new application for each admission cycle."

And.. are you international student? If yes, read this about CSULB nursing too..

"Can international students apply?

The program can only admit 2 international students a semester to the Basic/Trimester BSN Programs. The top two international students will be

offered admission into the program. The Entry Level MSN Program is for California residents only."

Don't just "really want to be a nurse" and have everybody fed you information. Do more yourself to make it happen!

Any school that you wish to attend should have the requirements for admission to their program listed on the website of their nursing school. And you can pick up the phone and talk to an advisor or make appointments to talk to the advisors at any of these schools. There is nothing to stop you from taking classes toward a BS degree. Most schools have a copy of the IGETC form in their schedule of classes. Just take these classes and you can't go wrong. I doubt that you would be going full time to school long enough for too many transferable courses to be come a problem. Talk to an advisor to get yourself on the right path. And stop worrying so much. Take some action to have your questions answered by those most qualified to do so. Good luck.
