Help!! I'm having nightmares about starting school

Hi everybody,I will begin an accelerated LPN program in 2 weeks. I am scared to death! I have been having horrible nightmares about school and feeling so anxious. I read posts on this site daily and get more fearful. If anyone can who has already begun school give me a single piece of advice of what I should do first, second, third to get through this without having a nervous breakdown? I appreciate any and all responses! Thanks everybody.

Basically just prepare for life outside of school to be over. You spouse will feel left, kids will feel abandoned, and your dog will probably starve. It's worth it though! In the long run your doing something for them that will help. Stay strong and be brave! Don't stand in the backgroud. Be a go-getter but not a kiss ass.

Do not fall behind in your reading, study like you have never studyed before, and do not forget to breathe! You will be fine....if you have your books already, begin reading them. This has helped me so much and because of it, I have gotten an A on both of my tests in fundamentals!

You will encounter though what itsbuzzy said..... my hubby (thank God he is understanding and supportive) is feeling very neglected, my family and friends think I have fallen off the face of the earth. In the end, it will be all worth it!

Best of luck to you!

thanks! thee good news is I'm divorced and have no man in my life right now. My kids are 19 and 17. So obviously I'm probably going to be the oldest student in class. (46) and that I think is part of my anxiety...wondering if this old brain can do this. I really appreciate the advice. Thank you.

Hi there. First of all Congratulations on being accepted to nursing school! YAY for you!!!:yeah: I have been in nursing school for about a month now, and I too felt the very same way in the begining. Rest asurred that you will be alright. It will be an exciting adventure into something so wonderful, and new. Nothing "bad" is going to happen, unless you don't mind some headaches from studing too hard, otherwise, it will be great:up:!

Make sure to be prepared for classes though. Read your sylabus, and be informed before lectures so that when the instructor is explaining the chapters or lectures on learning, your prepared, and have questions ready in case you didn't understand a certain area in the book, etc. Don't be shy to ask questions.... Remember to be a good nurse, you need to know, even things you think you may not have to. It does take a lot of time studing, so having your kiddos older and being self reliant may be a major plus for you. If you have to minimize your work do so, but never your studies, You'd need to be studing all the time. May cards to remember terms and recite them as your waiting for a doctors appointment, or during lunch, etc. Either way you'd rememeber this, studing and repition is key. and gather a study group so that you'd learn some more, and go to touring even if you don't think you'd need to.

It is going to be a great semester for you, and I know once that first week is done, you'd be loving nursing school.

Best of luck! By the ways, your not old. It's all mind over matter. Yas:-) :wink2:
