HELP....I still want to be a RN

Published

Greetings everyone!

I hoping for a some really good advice.

I graduated from a 2-yr Nursing Program in 1995. I am not now nor have I ever worked in the field since graduation. I have taken the NCLEX RN Examination more than 5 times, after using several different review books and several refresher courses. I used one review book this last time and did not take a refresher. I studied daily for about 6-8 weeks.

I do not want to give up on my dream of being a nurse and would like to take the exam again this year. Any advise on where to start? What has worked for you or someone you know that may have passed the first time or may have taken the test multiple times? Any refreser courses you would recommend? Study habits? Study Plans? Advise? Constructive Criticism?

Thanks in advance,

G

You asked for some really good advice. I'm going to give you some excellent advice. If you want to be a nurse at this point go back to a nursing school. Start over, do it again.

Seriously, 23 years have passed since you graduated?? You have attempted the NCLEX 5 times?? It's time to stop and learn again. I can't even imagine the changes in nursing from the time you received your education to now. It is unfathomable to me that anyone can expect you to now enter the field of Nursing after 23 years, zero experience, it's just absurd in my opinion. If you still wish to be a nurse, go to school to be one. Don't try to keep passing an exam for which you are so very unprepared.

Specializes in NICU, RNC.
