Help, should I start an np program..

I'm at a crossroads. Getting my masters has been something I've always wanted to do, however I'm really worried about the program and finding a job afterwards. Will an np program be woth it for me and do I have enough experience... There is so much I'm worried about. Right now I work part time and mostly nights and I spend most of my time with my young son but I've applied to some np programs that are online and have clinicals in areas near u. i miss being in school and learning new things but at the same time I don't want to start something and have too much on my plate. And I'm concerned I won't find a job as flexible and enjoyable as I have now. Any advice....

    I applaud you for being so ambitious. I am not following what you are worried about...I think I missed something. My husband and daughter suggested that I should become a NP but I am not so sure because I now have 3 daughters 18, 4 and 10 months. When I went to nursing school I only had one child and she was 7 years old at the time and I currently have a AAS in Nursing.

    When I spoke to my NP during my prenatal visits for my second child she encouraged me to pursue that area. She liked the fact that the hours are normal working hours and she only worked 3 days a week. She is now on her second child and is glad that she made the decision to become one.

    Not sure of your state but I would google NP positions and take it from there. I see a few positions here in VA and having regular hours is definitely a plus especially when you have a family to be concerned about. Many hospitals claim to be great for working women but then all they care about is trying to hire for nights which most people don't want to work if you have children. I hope that I have helped in some way. I wish you so much success and you are definitely an inspiration.

    Greetings, I agree with the other post, not sure what your Dilemma is? My take is this I have a BSN and I am looking into MSN programs, majority of the programs take about the same time 36-50 credits I have seen. NP can get a job fast, my dilemma was going with FNP vs. PMHNP which is my speciality. If you are on fire for school and ready to learn go for it. You adjust your work around the online environment. I have heard of some NP- students still working 3/12s.
