Help! I failed my first test in Fundamentals

Published

I had my first test in Funamentals of Nursing yesterday and I got 70%. The passing score in our college is 76% That is a grade "D" and I feel ashamed. I put a lot of time on it, I studied 4-5 hours every day, did the test after each chapter, did the study guide questions, and also CD practice tests. Did I overstudied? I felt very good before the test and I was expecting a high "B". I am in my late 40s, trying hard to change the course in my life and I realy want to become a Nurse. How do I know what I have done wrong, and what should I change. Is it my age? Or is the ctitical thinking in the test questions, I feel down and discuraged, and I have fears for the next test. I need some advise Please:uhoh3: Veola

Hi, I would talk to the teacher and find out where you went wrong and how you might need to study differently. I am in the LPN Program and am just finishing up my first quarter. I was use to making really good grades in my prereq. classes and when I started taking tests in Fundamentals I started making C's. I am also in my 40's and although it has been hard, I have made it through my first quarter. Don't get discouraged just keep studying.

:)

Thank you for your advise, that is a good idea,

Good luck to you too.

You might be studying too much, I kno that sounds crazy but I used to have that problem in the LPN program and I went to a tutor who told me that 1-2 hours of studying per day is all your brain can absorb at one time. If you want to study more you need to take a break after an hour and get your mind to refocus on the material. There are so many study tools that you can use from note cards to rewriting notes. Some things that help me are buying a NCLEX prep book and doing questions that go along with your area of study for a certain test you are taking. Also I tape record lectures and listen to them in the car on the way to school or to clinical I listen and that helps alot.

Good luck I hope this helps!

in our program anything under a 75 is considered failing. we are told to make appt with our advisors if we make any grade we are not happy with and they will go over the test with us (alone) and show what we did wrong and why it was wrong. maybe you could meet up with your advisor to discuss it and get help!

i also agree with the possibility of studying too much. you can also over think the critical thinking, or even use the critical thinking when not completely necessary, thus choosing the wrong answer to a reasonably easy question.

study groups have helped me more than anything. listening to the points others think may be covered on a test and compairing notes can be very beneficial aswell.

good luck!!
