In terms of getting organized for the nursing classes, I have a regular 2" binder that I carry in my backpack to class, then a huge 4" one at home.
We get a syllabus for each nursing course. I copy the sheets designated for each unit (we have 5 units in Nursing 102 this semester) and put them in their own divider. All handouts, powerpoints, notes, etc. go in the divided portion. Then when we are done with a unit and have taken the exam, I take the whole unit and put it into my big notebook at home. I kept all of my notes from Fundamentals this way, and it really helped to study. I was able to lend it to a friend who took FUndamentals last semester, and she could follow right along.
My advice is to keep everything. It may take a while to figure out how to best organize your information, but once you find a way, stick with it. It may even be a different way from what your classmates do.
My 2 hour class I have a 2" notebook with the outline and handouts divided up into sections. Whenever we complete a section, I have an accordian folder at home where I put that unit. We get so many handouts per unit I can't fit them all in a notebook.
My 4 hour class is really 2 classes in 1, so I have a 3" binder for it. Same thing though - divided up into units, when we finish a unit I file it away at home and get it out of my notebook.
I always keep my syllabus in the front in pocket protectors so I don't loose them because they usually hold some massive grading information for a project, etc... I also put the class schedule in there as well so I know when my tests are coming up next.

I am starting my first semester of nursing school on Feb 6. How the heck do I organize all of my course material!? I was considering one big binder for lecture handouts from all of my clases and then seperate note taking notebooks (1 for each course). How can I organize all of this so it isn't so overwhelming? What system works best for all of you?
