Help- Finding Housing Been Challenging

Published

Hi Everybody! I am a new travel nurse and I just got my first assignment!!! I feeling so excited, yet terrified. I will be working day shift in the ICU at St. Thomas near Nashville, TN.

Finding housing is proving to be VERY challenging. I'm looking for a room to rent and I've messaged a ton on people on Craigslist and Roomster and have heard back from maybe 2 of them. I have already had some contact with "Craiglist weirdos" which has made me question the whole Craiglist thing. The other issue is people do not want to rent out a place for only 13 weeks. I would like my own apartment, space wise, but really want to do the travel thing in an economic way, as I will still be paying my mortgage back home.

If I were to find a short term apartment, I would have to pay to rent furniture, which is just a further expense. The thought of paying $800/month for an Extended Stay hotel is totally depressing to me.

What does everyone else do? How do you find safe, affordable housing? What do you see as a realistic expectation of what you are going to spend on housing in this day and age in a city?

Thank you for any and all replies!

I currently work in Nashville at Vanderbilt, I would look just outside of town. I live in White house and rent is really cheap here. But if you wanted closer I would try Green hills, hendersonville, or symrna. Bad areas to stay away from are Madison, and Antioch. You might find something in germantown, east nashville, SoBro, or the gultch but you will pay high dollar in those areas because they are trendy. I would offer you a room in my house but we are getting ready to travel soon ourselves so that would not work.

Wouldn't this be the perfect time to rent a room?

Yes except they will need it prior to us leaving I just don't think timing will work...plus we will have family in town for the holidays. Sorry. But Ned you bring to mind a good point I hadn't thought about renting out a room in our house while we are gone.
